My daughter and I just drove home from Central FL with her new '97 Metro 4 cyl coupe.

I tried to put $10 in the near empty tank but it just overflowed all over my shoes. Then I checked the mileage and it was 41.8. Wow. That was driving 55-65 over 200 miles.

To top it all off - we passed two cars on the way. :rocker

I drive my '91 pretty hard on the way to work: passing cars and running 65-75 the whole way. I've still been getting 38-41mpg although I was told on another forum that is quite a bit lower than what it should be. Still can't complain though!

I was getting around 40 MPG on 2 cylinders with mine. I can now beat the crap out of my car and still get 40+ :)

Last tank was 58 MPG, but it's been warmer. On the really cold days, I get low 50's believe it or not.

That is great mileage for the 4. I was only getting high 30s with my 3 after the head/cam and other mods.

J.M.,
I often wonder how you achieve such high numbers...is it possible your calculations are thrown off by improper speedometer/odometer readings? Fuzzy math, maybe? I'm just saying....(out of jealousy, of course!)

My consumption in city is 5.0l/100 that means 47mpg. When I travel outside , usual 3 persons my 1.0L eats only 4l/100 = 59mpg. I regularly use REDEX for cleaning the gas system and found that the power is increasing, the car has more briskness and the consumption is decreasing with 0.2l/100km or 25%.

about REDEX

I believe Johnny's numbers. We have about the same car and I'm getting 50+. I've hit over 60 mpg about 5 times last summer. This is averaged over the tank. I drive like an "old" Grandpa, not like the "young" Grandpa that I am. On bad days, I can get mid to upper 40's. I've checked my odometer/trip meter with the mileposts and I'm about as close as you can get. Most all the county roads out where I live are exactly one mile apart. And I'm using a Scangauge.

I'm using 91 octane, advanced timing, WAI, very easy on the throttle, hypermiling.

Bah, hypermiling is way too much work for me. An easy foot on the gas and speed limit of 60 yields an average of 47MPG year round. I can live with it!

Why I love my Geos ..............MPG!!!! Plus my 3cylinder stick is a MONSTER on the roads. I live in the country....some roads have no telephone poles. Gives you an idea what we deal with some days. Great vehicles.
