So I here my dog barking about 3:30 last night and thought I heard a voice at the back of the house. Got up, grabbed the shotgun, checked out the house and nothing. Looked out front, but you can't really see the driveway where I park the Metro. So I go back to sleep, and about an hour later, the doorbell rings at 5 am. Now I know something up because its a cop. He's trying not laugh, and asks me if the white car is mine. Yep. As I walk out to see it, it's flipped over in the yard. WOW. Now when I first got the car about two years ago my roomates at the time turned it sideways, but to see it flipped over was kid of heartbreaking and funny at the same time. Luckily, there wasn't that much damage. Got a tow truck to flip it back over and he sat it down nice and slow. Passenger fender and door are out of alignment. Roof is dented up. Windshield is cracked a lot more than it was, but no other broken glass. Passender mirror broke off. Cop said he got a call for suspicious guys down the street aroung the same time this happened, so more than likely it was them. Anyways, I let it sit for about an hour, popped the hood, and checked it out. Looked pretty normal. Air filter was still clean. Started it just for a moment and it started right up and seemed to be running normal. Had just done the seafoam treatment and oil change last week. So what should I do before I start driving again, mechanically. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Wow, that sucks! Typically with an engine that has been upside down you pull the spark plugs and crank it over...that way if fluid has gotten into a cylinder you don't hydrolock it. But if you already had it running I'd just check all fluid levels and add as needed then you should be good to go. Derek |

Good thing you did not catch them doing it. Mr. Mossberg tends not to get along with troublemakers. I just picked up a Mossberg 600 myself, and he would really hate to meet someone doing this kind of crap. |

Technically, the car is totalled. I have heard of this happening to small car owners before, and have always worried about leaving the car in a bar parking lot or something especially with my back window boasting my mileage. If I were to catch someone doing this, they would be in for a real Sorry about your car

In order for a few people to flip a Metro successfully, they would have to grab the car low, like at the rocker panels. Imagine screwing 15 razor blades along the rocker lips on both sides

I've heard of people putting broken bottles and stuff like that in the concrete on the tops of walls to keep people out. Then they get sued because someone got cut up bad and they were only playing around on the wall...of course their intentions were only fun and games...and would never be vandalism. At least that is what they tell everyone. Derek |

Derek is right, you would get sued just for protecting your own property. However, I always wanted to get one of those really high powered ignition coils and hook it up to the body of the car. Don't know if it would work or not but it would really give some jacka@# a real "charge" when they touched your car! I would check your oil level as suggested, pop the breather hose off of the PCV valve and make sure there is not a bunch of excess oil in there waiting to clog up the PCV valve. Check your brake fluid level. Check your battery level, if possible. Your radiator should be fine but you will want to check the overflow tank for proper level. If auto tranny, check that fluid level as well. Manual tranny should be OK. Thats about all I can think of. |

You could install mercury switches on the headliner. When the vehicle is parked, you "arm" the system by flipping a toggle switch. The switches are wired to battery voltage and directly to the horn, so if the car about to be rolled, the horn will scare off the Metro flippers. Mullet's Metro anti-flipping deterrent. |

Good ideas. I've been driving as is for the past two days. Runs goods, looks real bad. Got a new windshield for $95. Gonna try and pry roof back up and put on windshield tommorrow. Also gonna pick up a fender from picknpull tommorrow. All in all, it's in pretty good shape for being rolled. I know it will never be a perfect metro because everything is a little off. But then again, this car has been a real trooper for the two years I've had it. Thinking about starting a thread about everything I've replaced on this car, and everyone else could do the same. I'll have to say I've gotten some pretty strange looks the past couple of days. |

You are a good guy to have such a positive attitude. Good luck with your repairs. Might want to keep a copy of the police report with you in case you get stopped. I can do most anything to a auto but replace the windshield. I manage to crack it or bust one every time I try. Take care

I have not tried this myself, but I have heard that the way to replace windshields is to remove the mouldings outside and any inside the get in the way, poke a small hole through the gasket of the windshield and feed some piano or guitar string through that. Have a friend work inside and use the string to saw your way around the old windshield. Remove it, clean up all of the old gasket compound and you are ready to install the new glass. I don't remember what to use for a new seal but a windshield shop could probably sell you some if you asked. Put in the new sealer, install glass, install all mouldings and should be good to go! |
