Despite the safety concerns, I'm only paying $170 for six months insurance! (PLPD of course) |

My father-in-law is nervous about his little girl driving such a small car to work. My mother-in-law probably doesn't care too much. My parents think we should "at least get one good, reliable car" My wife loves it

"My parents object big time, especially after that snowstorm on Dec. 19. The Geo is so skiddish,..." Ryan, you should consider getting 13' rims (if you don't already have them) and then buy and mount some Firestone Winterforce snow tires. I've just done that for my 1992 metro and it the difference in the handling of the car in slick conditions, and on snow and ice is like the difference between night and day. Here is another great reason to buy them now: You can buy the so-called "black-wall unbranded" tires for only $25 each!!! http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Firestone&tireModel=Winterforce&partnum=58SR3WFORCE&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes&place=3 I bought mine just a couple weeks ago and they were $30 each then. This will make your Metro a lot safer to drive in bad conditions. Good luck. |

I've driven my Dodge 4x4 to work twice. Once because we'd gotten about 5" of snow and the plows hadn't touched the roads. Other time there was a forcast for ice that never came. Bad thing was the $12 in gas (at $1.65 a gallon) for ONE round trip to work! If I hadn't just bought new tires I'd check those Winterforce out. Derek |

I've driven a metro since they first came out in 1986. I feel very safe in it because it handles so well and is so small it can squeak by, and literally bounce off mountains like a bumper car. (yes I admit I hit a granite mountain head on at 50 mph one rainy night. was fine except for a scratch on the front bumper!). I find it the best for driving in snow too, with the front wheel drive. I made it over the Siskiyou summit one winter night when no one else could. My family have all bought into the bigger is better argument, but I just don't see it. I love geo's. Best car ever invented imo. Edited by ggwoman, Jan 10 2009, 01:07 PM.

Hubby hates mine, but it's still the best car ever in snow and ice. Yes, a juvenile groundhog will total it, yes a deer will be the one calling 911 to get the mess out of the way, but still more comfy and better stereo than a sportster! |

statistically speaking you're much more likely to die in a bigger car to do their high-centre of gravity, body-roll, lack of control and rolling likelyhood. and no objections from the parents here. although my mother was sure worried when i had rolled their 95' 4door into a ditch. |

You have to admit, you do tend to drive more defensively in a smaller car

Not bad! Thanks for the link. They are $28 a piece and shipping is $33. However, no taxes are charged for Michigan residents. So, all in all, it's not a bad deal. I see Wal-Mart charging at least $32 for the Douglas brand... |

Yes & no. It is me. Drive 18wheeler some, use to operate 2wheels. Quit 2wheels because of "other" drivers. Love my Metro. Won't take grandkids to Cleveland in it though. These great little cars are safer than 2wheels though. Maybe your senses will be alerted more maker YOU a safer driver. Hope this helps. Plus I live in the sticks. Hate big city for many reasons, think #1 is the traffic. |

Yes! The Geo Metro is ideal for those who like the economy of a motorcycle and who want to reduce the chances of accidental death. |

They bitched about my crack habit too, with the same result. I told them it's none of their business. |
