I have seen this a few times on other sites, but have no idea what it is supposed to do. Does anyone have any info on this mod?

I have seen this. Some people believe that because of the position of the pcv valve being lower than the valve cover, and so close to it, that too much oil gets into the system causing or at least contributing to the problem of burnt valves. Most of these seem to be ways of cutting down the oil going through the pcv into the motor. I don't know if I buy it or not, but I also do not run a pcv. I still have the valve, turned upside down, but the tube coming from the valve cover has been extended to run out the passenger wheel well. |

Put a small catch can on that tube Will, Then you can keep the expelled oil off you tires and the road. |

I used to work on some fork lifts that had a lot of blow by. I used to vent them thru a air line drier. Then I would just dump them when they got close to full. Just a idea, there are many other different ways to do it.

i am going to put that on my car and give it a try maybe that will stop my big smoke screen i give the car behind me every so often.but i only happens to me when i am driveing over 70 mph for some time if it works i will let you all know |

The more I look at that it looks like the air cleaner is still pulling vacuum and the "Gas filter" (as in Oxygen) is now "T'd" into the system and it's still hooked into the PCV. You have vacuum pulling from the air cleaner, PCV and "fuel filter" on the valve cover at different intervals and inches of mercury. So waste goes either into the air cleaner (1st, by gravity), the "Gas filter" that used to be connected to the distributor and if it makes the loop the PCV. What happened to the vacuum hose that goes to the Distributor? Vacuum advance? Potter... You don't "need" to do this. Part of emissions is to burn the waste gases and by-products by readmitting them back into the intake and combustion chamber via the Positive Crankcase Ventilation system. I had a hose from my valve cover to a glass jar (sitting in a coffee can) zip-tied to my shock tower in the engine bay. The tube extends 1" into marbles that almost fill the jar. The PCV was still in and another hose went from the top of the jar to a "T" to both the air cleaner and PCV. Saw it on YouTube. Make sure it is sealed, no leaks. NEVER let it freeze or fill up and plug the hose from the valve cover. Weekly cleaning? |

Thanks for the info :thumb... it seems as tho i need to do a catch can and an air breather... the pcv comming off the valve cover has a bunch of crap comming out.. it seems to be moisture and oil comming out it looks like a smoke... if i keep it hooked up and climb a moutain in it... itll blow a smoke screen out and almost kill the car.. if i do it by just dumping it out... it dosnt blow out a smoke screen but i have what looks like smoke blowing out by the Passenger tire... is that normal??? or is that something wrong like oil ports cloged or something of that nature??? right now the only other problems is a missfire due to prob... bad timeing and a non functioning EGR... need to get this puppy fixed before geopalooza |

The PCV system in our cars is weak, but if the engine is in good condition, it is adequate. If you're having oil phart problems, you've got internal problems. Most likely blowby from worn or stuck rings. If your engine has been rebuilt, it might be the oil drainback holes in the head gasket not lining up with the ones in the block. Also, the oil restrictor often gets lost and allows too much oil into the valve cover area. All that being said, it's still most likely worn out rings. |

Here's one I made cheaply on my previous Acura... main advantage is the replaceable filters. Note that my PCV was located too close to the intake My point is you can use those gasoline filters which has too many sizes and forms, so you can get different inlet and oulet configurations. Probably not the best one, but worked perferct! Later on I just added another filter and got two in a row... I haven't done anything similar to the little "Nano" since the filter plate is damn clean... makes me think it is not necessary. But catch tank for me is as necessary as an oil cooler on any car... You should be surprised how well this gasoline filters work... later on I finally added another one, so got two filters in a row and no possible oil gases on the intake. |

yo know when i replaced the headgasket on her not all the holes lined up... that might be the problem...but im not gonna jump to conclusions... thanks for all ya'lls help

hi all, the rebuild is working well except for the oil pharting. went right through the smog certification with great numbers. i've checked the baffle in the valve cover, checked the hoses and pvc and all seemed ok. i switched the break in oil, 15-40 rotella t to gtx 5-30 and for 40 miles thought i'd found the problem but on the homeward leg of the test, sure enough, the same intermittent oil cloud. it only happens approaching freeway speed .... not at 55 but 60 seems to trigger it. not sure how to proceed next but a catch filter might be an interim remedy while i try to figure this out. i can always pull the head but want to wait til i'm sure it's nothing external. is the oil actually filling the rocker cover above the height of the baffle? the 'burst' of accumulated oil must be triggered by something ... the height of accumulation sealing the valve cover exit port or a low spot in the hose and then getting sucked / pushed through? at this point i'm thinking that the oil cannot return from the baffle area and / or through the head fast enough and accumulates in the baffle area. why this might be the case, i'm not sure but the mentioned restrictor / head gasket issues could be a cause. i'm tempted to port the baffle in a few places to expedite the flow back to the head. the location and hole shape could be important to maintain the baffle function. i also wonder if a screen in the exit port might diminish the burst ... and possibly a longer hose with a 'high loop' from the port. I am getting into this conversation a little late (hey, give me a break - I just bought the car <G>) but you should make sure you are pulling a vacuum on your PCV system. You need to suck out the corrosive gasses and harsh chemicals from the oil breakdown. Also, the suction will help with power/efficiency.
