Obviously, if you're reading this you have a certain "appreciation" for the Metro - but why? As much as we enjoy the Metro, it certainly has its weak points and is not the perfect vehicle - no vehicle is. Why I like the Metro : - 3 cylinders is unique - very fuel efficient - making it even more efficient is a challenge and gives you a sense of accomplishment - its viewed as somewhat of a "disposable" vehicle, the whole "make something from nothing" challenge - they look great - they're tiny which makes them a bit easier to work on (no huge tools) - hatchbacks are great in general - fairly durable (although many modern vehicles are durable) |

I like them for the simplicity of design (no fancy do-dads to break), low cost of maintenance and, especially, the mileage. I can also find parking places that SUV owners have to pass up. Can't think of any new car that will compare. And speaking of new cars, I haven't had a car payment in almost 14 years! My Metros are probably the best thing I ever spent money on. I'm betting that you won't hear someone say that about their BMW or Lexus.

I like my Metro for many reasons already stated. Fuel mileage Easy to repair Reliable etc. I got my Metro like I do any other beater. I find a cheap car and drive it until it can't be fixed anymore and get another beater. After fixing the engine, and knowing about the frame issues, I was pissed after the trans went out. If this was any other car it would have gotten scrapped for that, but I fixed it because I love it ![]() |

I agee with JM, I keep 'em moving because I love them! Sure I enjoy the mileage, ease of repair, the looks of scorn from the gas hog drivers when they have to pass. But basically, I just love the cars. They are just so darn cute! |

Pretty much all of the above + they use 87octane.........unlike the Smart Car, which I think is 91 or 92 octane. |

I've never been a "Man of Means", and never cared what judgmental people thought, either. That goes for the cars I drove, as well... I have always done whatever was in my power to save a dollar for the sake of my family...SACRIFICE. Whether it was never buying a new car, or taking that to the opposite extreme, by buying the most basic of cars for the sake of fuel economy...it has always been conected to a larger purpose of freeing up monies for more important matters. I have no goal to save the world by "reducing my carbon footprint" on God's creation, just saving a hard earned dollar is enough incentive for me. Most of the time that people drive, they're alone in their car and don't need all the space around them that a larger vehicle supplies. It's just a waste of money. Not only do they cost more to operate, but cost much more to insure as well. Big vehicles do have their place, by transporting families and friends to various destinations, whether it's a vacation, sporting event, or picking kids up from school...but it's almost never the norm. Many times I would chuckle to myself while at work, thinking about my Metro surrounded by a sea of newer model cars and SUV's in the factory parking lot. Most costing their owner $500-$800 per month w/insurance costs. All of them sitting out there for 9...10...sometimes 12 hours a day, only to bring them back to point "B" at the end of the day, and do it again the next day. My Metro accomplished the same thing, with the same as reliability everyday...only I was getting at least twice the mileage without the needless financial burden. And as if driving wasn't already generally enjoyable, the fact that these little cars are as fun to drive as a go-cart, is simply icing on the MPG cake. Geo Metro - Enjoy the Good Life. |

In case you didn't know, I'm an economics major at WMU. Scarce resources; unlimited wants Marginal benefit versus marginal cost In short, I agree with your paragraph. See you in class. Edited by Ryan, Feb 14 2009, 08:08 PM.

Ditto on all the reasons for loving the Geos. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, eh, Ryan. I like the words cute and character. Our dog is a rescue and also my Geo. Trying to start a trend. On the carbon footprint, I just got back from a 1 hour round trip walking a mile to the store. The irony of eco-conscience is the environment is still being trashed and we only kept gas cheap (less demand) for all those years so gas guzzler owners could enjoy trashing the environment. I never appreciated the guys who raced modified 125 and 250 cc motorcycles until I felt power increase for modding my Geo. It's fun! |

Well this one i forgot. Think what you will but this is a true statement. Years ago a woman told me that men make up for their sexual inadequacies by the vehicle they drive. Plus my linage comes from a country where they ate "roof rabbit." You'll probably have yo goggle that one. Metro's got it going on. |

I agree with you all. People pay extreme amounts of money for cars that completely lack any character. Most cars these days look like most cars these days. I cannot stand that. I love my Metro for all the reasons stated like mpg, and ease of maintenance. I do not think it's an attractive car, but it is one of the few cars that truly live up to originally advertised purpose. That being said I will one day have a piece of good old Detroit muscle sitting in my shed. I don't know when, but I will have one. I will also have my Metro right beside it!!! |
