Hacksaw, a hearty "Here, Here" to you. :thumb Hit the nail right on the head. My family lives a much better life because of the savings we get from driving these cars. From fuel savings to maintenance costs, these cars have allowed us to be in a much better financial position than some of my friends and co-workers. I am especially appreciative in this time of corporate greed and company layoffs.

Ryan, whats not to love? They are like overgrown roller skates! C'mon, admit it, you love yours too! This is the age of the enlightened male. We LOVE our little Geo's and Johnny Mullet's forum is our support group! :D :cheers

I like the fact its aerodynamic (assuming struts are great and there is no weight car); the back sits up high. That's about it. I do wish the rear turn signals were orange/yellow.

I strongly agree with the statements of point "A" to point "B" transporation. That's all a car amounts to. I learned in an international business class two years ago that Americans view cars as "status symbols" and they want to look good. People pay thousands of dollars on SUV's, luxury sedans, etc. and they depreciate in value everyday.

Perhaps the status symbol is a sign of "I'm successful" (and insecure)...

P.S. Support group? If you can't beat 'em, join 'em (I guess).

P.S.S. Okay, fine, I admit I look forward to getting in my car and driving away, but only because it's a 5-speed. It IS a fun car to drive around, it's nimble and surprisingly quick. And, I have quickly learned a lot of college students don't know how to drive manual transmissions. One guy in my class has a '07 Mustang AUTOMATIC. :lol

Me too. I'm going to be moving to England in a couple of years and I'd really like to take my Metro with me, as they were never sold there. No yellow turn signals is one of the sticking points, they're mandatory everywhere but North America.

Quote from Metroman Hacksaw, a hearty "Here, Here" to you. :thumb Hit the nail right on the head." I agree. Over the years I have had all types of cars. I guess when I had my Vette, my thoughts changed. I build a 61 vette, 427, 2 4 barrel carbs etc. I was getting about 4 to 5 mph. One day I looked over and saw a Ford Falcon running beside me. I thought Same road going same speed I am going broke on gas and crap and this dudes got money for beer, girls all the good things. I sold it soon after than event. Of course going to jail for street racing helped with my decision . They wrote me up for 140 in a 50. An :drivin :drivin other story

I'm going to have to agree with the point A to point B driving. Most of my driving is just me in the car and it was getting hard for me to justify driving my pickup everywhere when my metro can do it almost as fast and save me a ton in fuel. Plus with more seats in the metro than in my truck and friends that dont mind its nice to be the one driving for a change instead of riding when we get people together.

Well....
:hmm
1. its verry exclusive(unlike the suzuki swift there are almmost no Geo metro`s in the Netherland)
2. It was verry cheap for an convertible
3. Its a hell of fun with top open :D
4. its feels mmore sporty than my galant.

5. i just needed a small cheap light car to spare the galant more on short tracks.

No i have 2 cars for the price of 1 bigger car :thumb

I don't think anyone else mentioned this, but most cars produce a lot of annoying, low-frequency resonance if driven with their windows open. In my Chevy S-10, the noise is so bad with the window open that I used the AC 9 months of the year. In my Metro, there is so little turbulence around the car that I can drive with the window open at highway speeds without any acoustic discomfort. Since neither of my metros have AC, this is a very good thing.

Also, I am large and I find the seats and the seating positions to be more comfortable than any other car I have owned besides a 94 Toyota Tercel.

The gas mileage.

Ease of repairs.

The low cost of tires and low rate of tire wear.

And last but not least, the availability of the this website and all the Metro helpful honchos. That is worth a lot!

well for me its comfort, and economics,i have always liked smaller cars,i had a tercel, waaay back in 1988 lol,it was a 1980 and i loved that car,it was a 2 door hatch back, sport model with aluminum alloy rims and 4cyl,5 speed,an sr ....lot of fun to drive and zippy as hell, the metro reminds me of that car in so many ways, the cluster is close, the interior too, cept they had vinyl seats and a lot of road noise.....also have owned a chevette, civic and of course the 98 and 200 metros(thats all the small cars i have owned)

Well the best way I can sum up of why a metro Practical! Basic transportation, Great gas mileage (45 to 50), Easy to work on, A BLAST TO DRIVE!!! I also have a 94 Olds. (full size) car and their is more leg and head room in my Metro. Need I say that I am 6'5" tall and 280lbs. Theirs ample room for me the toolbox and accessories to get most anything I need to do. did I mention it's fun to drive?

I started out five years ago to find a very good condition Metro, .......... and found several, all 3 cyl, 5 speed two door hatchbacks. They are great "basic" transportation.

I feel I'm making a statement when I'm seeing driving a Metro. 1) I'm thrifty, don't need a big SUV for daily transportation. 2) Durability, they keep going & going. 3) Simplicity, very easy to work on. 4) Parts availability, many sources of parts (including my two parts cars that I drove home). 5) Room, in a pinch able to haul 4 adults or even 8 ft. long boards and still close the hatch. 6) I have several mechanic friends & myself that think they are neat looking vehicles. 7) They were an "honestly" built car, designed for durability and longitivity.

I do have several other vehicles, including a 4x4 Suburban & a diesel Sprinter van and the wife's Toyota Echo (great car as well) and driving the Metro's keep the miles off the more expensive rigs.

Our society has become way too complicated with many things becoming "bigger, better & more costly" including most vehicles. Driving Metros is one way to make a "statement" towards a more sane & simple life.

Back in 93, I was working in the pink-collar ghetto, just had my 73 Valiant totaled by a so-called friend, and was looking to make a new start. I had cut my teeth on 50's, 60's, and 70's heavy metal but in my heart, wished for something more like the 75 Celica I had driven in high school. I was tired of blocks on the pedals and pillows under my seat cusions. I also thought that even as a single mother I could finally afford to buy something NEW.
I was thinking small, and a Sunfire just wasnt it, but a friend took me to a dealership where they sold Geos. I sat in that drivers seat and when I had to move the seat back a notch I said "what colors does it come in".
After moving, Boy Scouts, driving lessons, etc, I realised that they had warped the space/time continum so there is actually more room on the inside than on the outside. Add to that: the high clearance that let me camp, skinny tires that got me thru blizzards ($12 at WalMart!), city parking when I can't parallel park, better gas milage than a hybrid, and a color even my blind Hubby can find in the dark...and peppy too? What's not to love?!?!?!

I bought my well used 97 metro in 2002 keep the miles off my nissan 4x4 pickup and save some gas. The metro is my daily driver and now years later it has given me very good service with only oil changes and a new timing belt just to be safe. I like this car so much that I've begun a restoration with a new battery and new 175 X 65 tires on 14" wheels. Maybe an engine transmission swap so I can overhaul later.
