I suppose this is similar to the scangauge and other onboard systems. I'm thinking these types of devices would be nice to use not only to monitor fuel efficiency, but to monitor :

Vehicle Speed (MPH)
● Manifold Pressure ● Battery Voltage
● Engine Load ● Coolant Temperature ● Throttle Position
● Intake Air Temperature ● Ignition Timing ● Engine Speed (RPM)
● Closed/Open Loop ● Water Temperature

The units are compact an far less difficult to install than individual gauges

This unit is available from Princess Auto at about $150 Cdn. regular price - but they often have sales, so I'd assume that with a bit of patience, one could be had for quite a bit lower. I see that Amazon.com sells them for $100 for U.S. customers.

Looks like a winner! As long as the info is presented in a user-friendly way, its all good. The gray color matches my dash!

Scangauge vs Autel Maxitrip - I've no idea what the differences are, but they do appear to be very similar.

Another neat tool would be those which interface OBD2 to a laptop - something like the Elmscan series from http://www.Scantool.net - although these would more of use when trying to diagnose a vehicle.

cheers,
