Here is the pictorial update for today's activity.![]() A pic of me in the wind deflector ![]() I saved this hole in the stub for line up purposes. Worked well I think. ![]() Another angle. ![]() Another line up hole. ![]() Tacked in place ![]() Now you see why I saved that side of the original stub. ![]() Welding through rust is a bitch. The frame extension is/was rusted into the upper portion pretty bad. ![]() Here is the out side wall. The bubble gum parts are where I was trying to tie the new to the old through the rust. Not to worry, I have a plan. ![]() Grind smooth and apply a fresh piece of metal to re-enforce and tie upper and lower portions together. ![]() The inside of Bobby's driver side footwell. I cut open the floor to access the inner panels so I can weld the new stub to the original superstructure. I have to get through this and put his floor back together. I told you I had a plan. ![]() Oops, a hole in the floorpan. Hey we have a whole other floorpan to plunder, pillage, borrow, or otherwise get parts from. |

So here are the pics I promised.![]() Whats up with the hair? Oh yeah, like you look perfect when you wake in the morning. ![]() Some fresh 16 gage metal added to the outer edge. Donated by one of the guys in the shop. He gave me a lot of fresh metal to use, so I will. ![]() The bottom of that same piece. I welded and hammered till it fit where I wanted it. On the right is my line up hole with a frame washer welded into the metal around it. Why? you ask. One of the guys at the shop suggested that I use that hole and a bolt with washers to pull the pan into the stub. It worked well and I welded the washers there for added density. ![]() The top of that piece as well. A little heat goes a long way and I was able to form it around the original horn as I went along. Of course having a 24oz dead blow ball peen don't hurt neither. I got some welding accomplished inside as well, but forgot to take pictures. Bobby came by and started trading doors from Thing1 onto Thing2. Anybody need anything? engine, transmission, interior parts, window regulators, etc. Send a email to; pwkeim(at)cox.net Bobby has a pay pal Account, I don't so any money transactions will go through him. Most of the pieces will be given away or sent to the Krusher. You have to pay your own shipping. |

Here's the pics I promised![]() "Ospho" the be all and end all of rust prevention. We use it in the shop after repairs to ward off rust in frames. Pour it in and let it set. It turns rust into a hard primer like coating. Iron Phosphate. Sandable, paintable. ![]() The inside of the superstructure. Where I burned through the pan to tie the new stub to the old Unibody. There is no pattern, I just went by where the rust created usable holes. ![]() A shot under the car where the new stub meets the old. Also shows the 1/4 plate steel used as a support and to tie the new to the old. Had to grind the inner portion away for the rear control arm mount to sit flush in it's new home. You can see the ratchet strap holding the brake and fuel lines away from the repair area. ![]() Painted with self sealing primer. ![]() The floorboard back in place and painted with black primer. Still wet and shiny. ![]() Fixed that pesky hole in the floor. Hosed it down with primer too. ![]() On the road again. All safe and legal like. Bobby installing the ever necessary hubcaps. ![]() 3 Metrii, 1 Buick, 1 Jetta. Bobby's a$$ pokin out my garage. Any body want parts? ![]() How many different colors can we get on one Geo? Bobby's is now 2 tone. Aqua over green Mine has ............. oooooooooooh......... 6 or 7 different flavors of blue. Oh yeah, that Nissan needs a lot of brake work to pass inspection and the owner has no money. Any one want a Stanza with no brakes? The door won't latch and the battery is dead. Won't answer my calls. So I guess the Sheriff is gonna own this one. Too Bad, So Sad. Well this project is finished. Bobby will be over this weekend to swap radios and some trim pieces and what-not. Tomorrow I pull the engine for Cobb. You listening Mark? I'll call tomorrow. |
