I fixed it! Thank you guys for the help! Turned out to be the Throttle position sensor needed adjusted. The previous owner must have moved it, he may have been trying to adjust the idle to compensate for a bad PCV valve that I ended up fixing recently. I could see the TPS adjustment looked a bit off compared to my other metro that runs just fine. My friend said that it's hard for you car's computer to make all the sensors and fuel work in sync if your computer is confused about your throttle positioning, causing it to not know to give more fuel at startup with a cold engine. After checking the factory manual under troubleshooting for "hard start" it does list the TPS as the next sensor to check after the coolant temp sensor. It says "A sticking throttle shaft or a binding throttle linkage will cause a high TP sensor voltage. The PCM may not control the idle if a high TP voltage is present." But I would highly caution anyone before messing with theirs before just adjusting it, it can cause some major issues if you don't know how to adjust it correctly to factory setting. There is a good thread on here called TPS Report that gives detail on how to do it right. Edited by natealt, May 13 2017, 12:33 PM.

Hey thanks for the heads up. We have far too many posters who ask for help, and then give little or no feedback at all, as to WHAT HAPPENED. Nobody that I know has a problem with giving advice, but it is a tremendous help with something back, and everyone who posts should follow your example, as to what's best for everyone. |

Cold start problems can be fun to chase down. This is what I have run into. I have had bad distributor rotors. Cracks and voids on the chinese rotors will ground out the spark to the distributor shaft. get a good NGK or ND from japan and this problem goes away. 1.0L. Cold oil and the lifters pump up and the valves hang open so no compression, no start. This is the reason why I test all my valve springs and throw them away after 100,000 miles. |

I am having similar problems with my 94 Metro 3 cylinder. It recently started having an issue where I start it when it's cold and it starts but dies right away UNLESS i am on the throttle slightly. It seems to be almost the same issue as Natealt's problem. So I tested my TPS according to my Haynes manual. So I took the air cleaner/air ducting off. Then unplugged my TPS and checked resistance between the terminals. It said it should read between 4.37-8.13k ohms between the A and D terminals at idle and mine came in at 3.94k at idle. Then I tested the terminals A and C at wide open throttle and it read 2.92k and that is supposed to read between 3.17 and 6.6k said the Haynes manual. So with the numbers being off I proceed to adjust it. So then I loosen the screws and move the tps a little to see if the numbers change and nothing changed. Any ideas guys or am I doing something wrong? |

You need to use the FSM to check and adjust your tps. There is a copy of the 94 fsm in the factory service manual section. Page 3. If you need help finding it I can add a link after work.

Freegeo I would appreciate that bud. I don't have a fsm. I just have the Haynes manual. |

http://geometroforum.com/topic/5044844/1/#new Here is a link to the 94 FSM. I did this on my phone so if it is screwed up I will fix it after work. |

You need to find out if you have upgraded emissions. The section for standard emissions is 6E2-C1--11. That's page 11 it covers the tps. |

Pages 14 and 15 covers how to adjust it depending on if it is standard or upgraded emissions. |

Thanks Freegeo for the help. To check for continuity, what should I have my volt ohm meter set to? Just set on ohms? |

Ok so I performed the tests to the best of my ability and I cannot seem to get continuity when I move the tps each way. And the reading still came in low for the ohms readings. Would it be safe to say I have a bad TPS? |

Let me check the procedure. I think you should be checking for voltage not resistance |
