im looking at buying a 93 metro, its on craigslist, so all i know is that it needs a alternator and distributor, along with the door opening shit on the driver side door, Im looking at getting either a 94, or a 91 metro, will the 60% of the parts from either of the two(91 or 94) fit the 1993?

any help will be great!

Yes, the parts are interchangeable from 1989-1994 and then from 1995-2001

Welome.

Body parts and alternator will be no problem. Distributor, maybe yes, maybe no. There were vacuum advance distributors and computer advance distributors. Difference may have been between XFI and normal, auto or stick, California or Federal. I'm not real sure on this as my last distributor car was totalled in 97.

Be sure to read up on frame rust before purchasing any Metro - as many have severe rust issues.

The inside door handles are different on the 89-91 models.

ok, thanks guys
is there any other problems that could lead to the car not starting?...other then what i the guy thinks of the distributor, and alternator?

and when i go look at the car, as he responded to my email tonight, im gona ask my uncle if he'd come with, since he drove a metro for many years, and it would brake down, and he'd fix it, and drive it again, so im hoping its a dec. car, and he can go look at it with me, but we'll see

I think the worst case would be lack of compression. A non charging alternator could mean low battery charge and not enough Cold Cranking Amps. The wife's '96 wouldn't start with 11 volts reading with the multimeter. Mine had a main fuse blown in the fuse box near the battery/LF fender. A blown in-line or otherwise fuse, loose connections.
Maybe the stud/nut of the alternator is loose. How about just corroded distributor/rotor contacts or a bad coil/coil wire.

As tmaxmetro says check for body/frame rust when buying a car in Wiscowsin. Lived in Ft. Atkinson, and Boscobel (1 year).

Actually mine won't start sometimes because the rubber floor mat scoots up between the clutch pedal and the firewall(?) preventing the depressing of the Clutch Switch. I really like my Flame floor mats. :D

A few things about the starting of your car. What is the exact symptom. What happens when you turn the key to START/RUN does the engine crank, do nothing ?

the guy said in the add he replaced the battery thinking that was the problem, but it didnt seem to work, so he thinks its the alternator and distributor...

just buy it, take it home and figure it out from there. it's a good price and you'll make your money back by how much it's worth when it's running.

What he said. Plus, a 1/2 hr. is really nothing to drive & see a car. I live in the country & it's a 1/2 hr. everywhere I want to go at least. It's 10 min. just to get to the main road. lol I've driven 3-4 hrs. to look at cars several times. Bought my Avalon in Charlotte NC. off Craigslist. Drove from Fredericksburg, VA to get it. Good luck with it.

ya, idk about it yet really...im thinking cuz out here theres like 4 metros on craigslist, one has a bad engine, but every thing else is in good shape for 450, and another of the same year with a rust a arm mount with a good running engine and tranny for 375, so im thinking of doing an engine swap...

He's not charging extra for a new battery? Good deal... :)
Personally, I'd consider the engine rebuild kit although a swap was pretty easy. Even a shipped engine might be less $$$ than body work and welding, unless you do it yourself. I kept the original engines for parts, cores.

BTW, I live in the mountains. Cities with more than 2000 people are 2 hours away from me. Boise, Ontario, Oregon (no sales tax). I don't get out much. Snowed 4 inches last night, after the bolt of lightning.
I want a double Whopper with cheese. :drool ... to go with my whine.

I'm thinking Road Trip! B-) See more cows... and with the money you save on gas with a Geo you could turn your old car into a giant cake that says "Eat Me" on it.
