I wish I could get this for my Metro

My Civic was going through a quart of oil every 220 miles before it finally quit. I've got it running again but the oxygen sensor and converter are a little worse for the wear. I found this while looking for replacements and strongly suspected it was an empty pipe...or could easily be one...got it today and it is! Can't beat $30 for a pipe with flanges, gaskets, and new bolts! I can only buy hardware locally at True Value type stores so it isn't the cheapest...would have cost me $25 to cobble it together. :news

That's a nice buy, congrats! :rocker
I was suspecting the same thing about the Catco and Magnaflow Cats. and yep, pretty much a flow thru design. I think my '91's Catco has a screen but I just bolted on the Mangnaflow to the '96. :thumb
Not legal in California sold me. :D

Magnaflow cats are great and they are also high quality. I highly recommend Magnaflow.

Thats just a cat "converter"...aka "test pipe" to check for a plugged cat. They were popular in the 1980s when cats were expensive and car emission systems were so dirty the cats plugged quickly. Most people used them just to replace the cat with an easy to install piece of pipe. They used to be sold in every auto parts house on the planet until laws clamped down on doing conversions.

A direct fit Magnaflow for my car is $277+ Ouch! Well, my "off road" converter fit about like I expected for $30 shipped...the stupid thing is about 5/16" shorter than it needs to be so the rubber hangers are stretched. I might just run it and see how it works...if it doesn't hit anything and cause noise then I'll leave it although I may end up repacing a hanger or two in the future. If I do that I'll weld in a piece of pipe to lengthen it.

I found this for a 1991 Geo Metro in Magnaflow...Catalytic Converter for $132 with shipping. I could be wrong...

The weld job on my Catco was OK until I installed the 218/350 cam and it shakes enough the Cat. hits the under belly. I undid it at the header and pounded the under belly in a 1/2 inch. Some cracks I covered with grease. It's much quieter.

That's a pretty good price...I bought my Bassani Y pipe from them for my Bronco. I got the Y plus a 3" mandrel bent tailpipe from Autozone and a turbo muffler off of eBay. After selling my old converters on ebay the entire exhaust cost under $50!

I tell you.. where i get my car inspected they dont use a sniffer so after my first engine blew up in the metro i gutted the cat by slaming a peice of 1 1/4 pipe thru it because it was cloged with oil and all sorts of gunk. jumped the second stage resonater thingamajig and its just runs straight to the stock muffler... its loud at highway speed when you mash on it.. but when i come up to the stop light its quiet as hell... the cops NEVER mess with me. oh and it still gets good mileage..(dont think back pressure was efected due to it didnt hesatate when you took off.)
