When I got my OEM replacement K&N air filter, the first thing I did was place it on top of the TB. And I really like the look.. But I was in 'restore mode,' this being my first 'car' and first engine install. I was looking for "power" and added Ram Air. This spring it's all about steering/handling and I bought a Tower Strut Bar from a Swift owner in Canada. Painted it and installed it.But the Air Cleaner is to tall! I've overcome phobias about drilling holes in the roof or cutting the Timing Belt cover. OK, so warm air it is and at first I cut a clearance hole in the Air Cleaner. Good but it de-pressurized the Ram Air... so I pulled the cover and hacksawed the entire top, saving the lip that the 4 clamps use to hold down the K&N. I think the IAT, MAP and ECM are working overtime to understand the change. ![]() It's not right or wrong, just different.Part 2: Oh, drilling holes in the roof, having a Roof Scoop? The Wife and I passed a dead skunk in the middle of the road (poor animal), "fresh air" vent open, scoop closed. Whew big lingering stink! Roof scoops are used in WRC for air and to pressurize the cabin, keep dust out. On our return trip, I closed the air vent and opened the Roof Scoop vent. The Wife got a small whiff of skunk but it did not linger! I can't smell.

You havw ac and a roof scoop? My geo is way more fun to drive with the ac off, you feel an extra 20 horses. I had considered a jeep vent they attach to the vent holes at the bottom of the windshield to channel air into the hvac. I swear I thought my metro had rear vent windows that opened an inch, no suck luck. I use to drive my tacoma all the time with the rear vent windows opened to get that flow through feel. |

Nope, sorry, no A/C on my '91, I edited out the "A.C." in my post, which stood for Air Cleaner. Yes, the Roof Scoop is very much like the Jeep Vent. Actually this is a vent off an old motor home, maybe an AirStream(?). It's actually been to cool and rainy up here at 5000 feet, for the last 2 weeks, to need the Roof Scoop but summer is coming...

How do you like the strut tower bar? Have you noticed a big difference in the handling? |

For the few miles that I have driven it I have noticed it seems stiffer. Slightly less body roll. I have some nice "S" turns and, like when I added the frame stiffener, it tends to feel more stable. I felt more confident when I had committed to turning in front on that SUV that was turning left in front of me... and then they decided to go straight and I had to turn quicker. It wasn not a problem with the response.Hope that helps? PS next will likely be a straight bar across the rear shocks.

If you really want to get an improvement about stability plus that bar... go ahead with polyurethane bushings for all the suspension!! Man!! that feeling is great !!

AGREED!!!!!! Strut bars, body bracking make a world of difference. Next lower it, beef up and or add a second rear sway bar and some low profile wheels and tires. I had a kn filter, but tossed it assuming it caused early engine failure. The oem filter does not look that restructive like the paper elements that were used at one time. |

You're right about that filter Cobb. The four cylinder breathes just fine through the exact same intake system. |

Could you provide pics of the "roof scoop". I am rather confused. At first I thought you meant hood scoop because you mention that you have ram air. Oh, also provide pics of the ram air set up. I do not see it in the pics on your post. @ Cobb, next time you toss a K&N air filter toss it my way. Those are great. I have been using them since I was 15. |

Just found your other post with pics of the roof scoop and ram air. Was not searching for them, just stumbled upon your post. I'm going to look into that roof scoop. |

If you have seen my 89 Geo Gasser, you may notice I installed a 15 inch by 30 inch, pop up window . I got it out of another car in the junk yard for $30.Their not as hard to install as people think ,the hardest part is getting it centered just right. It may not force air into the car ,but it draws the heat out,and it gets pretty hot here in GA. Its been in the car for over 8 years now and still dont leak,If it lets in to much sunlight you can tint it darker,or as I did spray some paint on the inside of the glass.Just another idea some may consider.
