Just inherited this car from my sister who moved out of state and saved my bacon by giving me her car. Look forward to making it unrecognizeable when she comes to visit. First thing I'd like to figure out is how to get more power. Thanks in advance. |

Welcome to the forum sacaledus ! ! Hope you enjoy everything here as most of us and get what you are looking for as well. If you go to "Geo Metro Forum → The Garage" you are going to find very helpful articles about tips and tricks you can try on your car, you can expose your project and also get supported on any Metro issue you may have. All you need is to be able to learn and read about! Have seen you have a 94 Metro... What engine size and transmission do you have on it ? Edited by Manny, Jun 26 2009, 01:28 PM.

Yes, welcome, sacaledus! Yes, power. It rocks, eh. First thing I did besides a full tune up was an aluminum underpulley from SuzukiRD.com. Just $79 plus shipping but that was only the beginning. I wish I had gotten at least the cam gear next from 3Tech and very glad I got the cam & cam gear at the same time. But hey, an obsession is an obsession. Good luck with yours and enjoy your community.

Bad Bent, did you notice much difference with the underdrive set? |

Welcome to the forum! I have a `94 four door too. Here are some things you can do to the car to help restore some power or responsiveness and maybe even more! 1. do a full tune-up. plugs, wireset, distributor cap+rotor 2. run some seafoam cleaner through the gas tank AND run through the engine via vacuum line. "to de-carbonize the intake and clean the engine out" 3. ensure the EGR isnt plugged up with gunk, and is functioning correctly 4. change out all fluids and for oil use 5w30! Also you can remove the stock intake tubing, it is restrictive (I noticed a difference, some people say it doesnt do anything) (I posted a pic of what i mean) This may be illegal in your state but you can increase your ignition timing quite a bit, it is factory set at 5* for emissions reasons, but i was able to run full advance with shell 93 octane....you can usually use 8-10* advance safely with regular 87 gas. Advancing the ignition makes the engine much more peppy and smoother in my opinion, but if you have smog checks, leave it stock and adjust after your testing...and vise versa. It is also good to check on your engine's condition by means of doing a compression test, should be no lower than 156 PSI in each cylinder....just ask if u dont know how to perform a compression test, we can walk u through it. now if your wanting to really do some mods, I reconmmend the 3 tech performace camshaft and +10 gear, i am a novice but it took me an hour to install the cam...and what a difference!!! removed intake tubing.....

Yes. The rpm increased a bit as did the throttle response ie peppier. IMO. Horsepower, maybe, the claim is only 2 hp. Certainly it decreases the rotational weight by what? 1/2, 2/3's. I went from the 2 pulley steel to single pulley aluminum. So regardless of hp the engine is working against less rotational weight. That's a good thing. Only downside would be the underpulley being smaller in diameter, the alternator will spin faster.

Alternator and water pump spin slower, that's the point of the underdrive pulley. The only time there's much difference is at idle, once you're up around 2,000 rpm's they're putting out as much as they ever will, simply spinning them faster will not increase output at speed. |
