well lil blue aka [blue balls] is a week old and 252 miles later, gas gauge reads between 3/4 & 1/2.i will drive it until friday [payday] and fill it up and check the oil.i guess since i go by if it isnt broke dont fix it is why i havent done a tune up.i will do a good one along with a belt inspection before winter.im amazed at what the mpg,s may be getting if the gauge is correct, since i drive over 1 steep long hill to and from work.4th gear keeping the r,s up she easily does 60mph.should not be so good for mileage but dont seem to affect it much.sure is fun to drive.have also noticed about 6 more metros around town.the new hatch struts came yesterday only thing left is the l-outside door handle from iowa to get here.enough rambling, cya, drive it like ya stole it

Thanks for sharing! You are aloud to give the Metro a little abuse and it will still get good mileage. |

yea just dont bracket race it like i did... youll end up burning the clutch and blowing the head gasket. if not more!!! that was back when i was young and stupid... and btw metros light both tires... if you get em wet and hold the e-brake you can shift into second while burning them. you can get away with 3rd if its raining and your turning out of a mcdonalds. lol me and sophia have had WAY too much fun together |

well, ihave driven the lil blue metro for a week and to make sure the fuel guage worked i filled it up.put 4.1 gal. in at 224 miles on the od.so i guess 55mpg aint bad.i pull that steep hill to and from work had a little spark plug knock so i put 92 octane in,no more knock, she dont see over 60mph.since then i put 98 miles on and the gas gauge just shows down an eighth of tank.only con is i think the syncros in 2nd gear are gone wont go in to second untill at operating temp and will never dowshift in,but hey,it works fine using 3rd gear instead. |

I hate 2nd gear, my syncros are gone too. And for some reason I can't double clutch downshift to save my life. |

I try to be nice on my transmissions, but my second gear keeps failing on me. maybe I bag it too much, or maybe it just makes too much power, but all I know is my new 3.52 trans is having issues popping out of second on up/down shift sometimes |

ha, well I dont burn the good ones. my "backup" tires are 175/60/13 and all they do is effortlessly spin and make a whole bunch of noise all the time, off idle taking off, boosting in first and second. power will come on and they just break free. it sucks. so I bought some azenis rt615's, a highly recommended soft autocross style tire. yeah it doesnt grab enough either my rears are 95% and the fronts I just pulled off for the backup tires this morning. they got maybe 10%.this is after being nice to them as they werent cheap, they lasted ALMOST two full oil changes. so not even 10000km Edited by Dallas, Jul 27 2009, 03:43 PM.

The fact that it changes with temperature suggests that Synchromesh might help. There's no magic of course, but for $20 you might get some improvement. |

Hi, I am new to this site. I just got a 1991 Metro Geo a few weeks ago. My tranny would grind shifting into second, and occasionally shifting into third. Some people on this site recommend synchromesh in the tranny. Yesterday I bought 3 quarts of synchromesh and tried it. My tranny grinding is gone! All I can say is wow! Having said this, I am still driving the tranny easy. I believe these are light duty cars, and should be treated accordingly. The BMW's and other expensive cars have excellent transmissions with strong synchros, and they can be shifted agressively. |

Glad to hear that, I changed mine and it make shifting into second a hair easier, not much but I know it didn't hurt. |
