Hey so I got my Geo the other day and when I was driving it home I had to climb a hill..Well it was screaming in 3rd so I shift to 4th and it slows right down..So is there anything I can do performance wise to give it a little more umph while keeping the fuel economy decent?

3Tech Cam and cam sprocket... the econo cam give you more tourque and fuel mileage. and the Preformance cam will give you more power all around the band and wont efect your mileage!!!

What do you mean "slow down" the engine or the car? Because in 4th, I can climb most any hill.

The Car slows down..It could just be that it hasn`t ran in a long time but still, some extra power would be nice.

Oh, we try... :coffee
Prior to my performance cam install I added a tachometer. Our 1.0 3 cylinder engines produce max horsepower at about 5700 rpm. The shift light is at ~3K. There is a rev. limiter. I like the comfort of having the tach. and knowing my rpm. I climbed everything in 3rd and most hills in 4th, 5th being more of an overdrive.

Potter is correct "will give you more power all around the band and wont effect your mileage!!! " I averaged 52 mpg on my last long trip. The engine idles rougher but any performance cam will do that! :thumb Now, 4th is my passing gear for getting to 80 mph and above. :D
Johnny Mullet's ecomodder.com mileage log with notes: Click Here, and see he's getting close to 70 mpg post "econo" cam. :thumb

If you drive to save gas and want more climbing power, get the econo cam and 10 degree advanced gear. If you like to run it wide open, get the same gear and a performance grind cam.

Where did you find a Tach for a 3 Cyl..I've been looking for one to install in my car before I get my license but I've had no such luck? Also Thanks for the advice Johnny. Is the cam hard to replace? I just got this car to get my mechanic skills up really..Well...That and the milage :D

Well, depends...
If you have time I'd get a Sunpro tachometer on eBay for $50 or if you want color get a Glowshift direct from their site.

Sunpro 3-1/2" NIB eBay $46 CLICK HERE Ends August 16. 6 available.

Sunpro has heavier gauge wires and a nice installation booklet. Excellent return policy.
Glowshift - pre test it before you cut or trim anything. Call to return before 15 days and return in perfect condition.

I have a 5" Sunpro on my '91 and The Wife has a 3'1/2" on her '96. I was to late in returning the Glowshift and I'm not sure it works.

i have an I-equis MONSTER 5" tach that works on 1-12 cyls... you can get the same one just in a smaller size.... but the topic Johnny posted up is probably the cheepest and less dash cluttering option... just go to you local pick and pull and find one in an LSI metro!!
