hey yall ive finaly decided everything im gonna do to Sophia... and one of them is an ALL OVER pant job and all over body work... but i want a cowl induction hood to go on the car... i know how to make one but im kinda worried about the precepitation factor since im gonna do it as a functional cowl hood... so yall think this is a good idea or no... it would look cool as beans but im worried about sophia sucking in watter and potentaly harming the engine. Any sugestions??? |

I like Cowl hoods on muscle cars .... on a Geo Ever thought of an inward scoop? it's kinda like a cowl flipped upside down. But it won't help with aerodynamics. Edited by MetroMatt, Aug 15 2009, 05:41 PM.

Probably lower than 2" would be best looking. |

Since my tower strut messed up my air cleaner I've been thinking about the reverse induction ala NASCAR. There is pressure at the hood/windshield intersection ,where the vent system draws in air, and that is a lot of air. Plus being off to the side it may not detract to much from the vent system. Take a look at: Super Scoop

Bad Bent that looks like a good concept... might try that. oh i intend not exceeding 2 inches.... because any taller and it wont pass VA inspection... (of course i could just take the hood off and go get it inspected. god love loopholes) Edited by Potter, Aug 15 2009, 08:10 PM.

If water is gonna be a problem with a straight foward scoop. Make a small depression as a water sink. Water is heavy and will fall down. Forced induction is very cool at speeds. The idea is to give the water somewhere to go. IE a piss tube to the ground. I have more thoughts here, but have to get to the job comp. Bummer |

You only need to worry about that if there's a possibility of the intake being under water. A lot of guys run the intake piping up front and have the air filter in the bottom grill opening. If you drive into a puddle over a foot deep, then it will suck up water and grenade the engine. Rain shouldn't cause a problem, just standing water. The stock intake is in the wheelwell, a minor problem with the plastic liner would have the tire constantly throwing water at the intake. If you're talking about true cowl induction, a reversed hood scoop, you have no worries whatsoever. |
