Funny thing. I found a forest green 1998 Metro 3cyl 5-speed locally for sale. The guys mechanic said there is a hole in the frame and it's unsafe. It runs good and no missfire. LF tire is wearing on outside edge and the rust on the body is minimal. I am kinda over budget to jump into another one right now, but it's supposed to be headed to the junkyard :hmm

We might have another Metro project coming up :)

Good luck with the aquirement.... hopefully it will be for a decent price.... but if nothing else you get a parts car for Christine.

could do it as a Fliper, or an ultamate something... ultamate HP or ultamate Hypermiler.

My offer for a skills trade is still open. audio or body for engine? :deal

I've got a spare G10 from a '95 (I was told) and I need rust repair on the driver's side rocker panel

So Blue Jay is officially complete. I replaced the oil pan and then both front wheel bearings. After driving it, I could still hear a humming noise from the front (not as loud as before) and it turns out the front tires have some slight uneven wear on them. This uneven wear was just enough to make the noise. Just to be sure, I swapped wheels and tires with Christine and the car is totally quiet. I will leave these tires on the wife's car for our vacation just to be safe.

BTW, the other Metro deal fell through. He was convinced the junkyard would give him $300 for the car and I would not give him that much for it. The frame was in terrible condition, the alternator was seized, and the radiator core support was totally gone, the exhaust manifold bolts rotted away, the head bolts (10MM 12 point) were disintegrated to nothing and would round off if attempting to remove them. Sure, I could have fixed it up, but probably could have used it for parts. Even with the wife and I both pulling in with both our Metros, he would not budge on the price. It had nice composite headlights and tires on the rear and I said, "If you are junking it, would you care if I swapped out those lights and tires? He said no.

Wow...awesome work! Very very nice looking Metro!!

That guy sounded like a jerk...I would have at least found out what yard so I could get the parts anyways! I hate stupid people!

Now you need a white hatch and you will have a patriotic lineup! I do love that blue color though!

Just before leaving on vacation, I wanted to get the "Check Engine" light off. It is on because there is no cat and the downstream O2 sensor was missing. I was not going to fork out big bucks on a new sensor so I came up with an idea. I had a known good upstream O2 sensor from a 1997 Dodge Caravan. I got out the wiring diagrams for both models and spliced the heater circuits together and the ground and signal circuits. By time we got to Syracuse, NY the light went out on it's own.

Damn I'm good :thumb
