Yeah, I am still having the vibration as well. I'm wondering if it is camshaft related (I guess I need to ask tech3 about this since he probably knows). It is still in the back of my mind but doesn't bother me as much now. Getting used to it is probably a mistake since I really need to be looking for a solution. |

Looks like typical burned valve engine shake, but you say it does it on overrun so that should rule out that. Beautiful engine bay, I must say. What is that hose coming across your timing cover? |

Rebuilt engine or just the head? I would run another compression test. You could have a cracked piston. |

(1) R.M. Ditto, really nice job. Now I have to clean mine up.(2) Woodie, That's not a hose. It is the convoluted tubing covered wiring harness to the lower front of the engine. |

I purchased a rebuilt head and put in new pistons, rings, bearings. Compression test yesterday showed 175 across the board (happy!). I took it for a HWY drive (first time it has been up to HWY speeds since the first day after the rebuild) and twice I blew oil/smoke all over the place. Yep, my mistake on the head gasket (oil drain holes are too small) has come back to bite me. I'll have to hook up a catch can sometime. This hasn't been a problem with my normal 50MPH driving. |

Worst case, slap that other trans back in and you will then know if it's a trans problem. You mentioned that this started after the trans swap. |

Yeah, that is when I think it started but you know how it is sometimes. My last "just slap the tranny in" was a 6 hour horror and I can't bring myself to start all over again "just yet". Maybe when I have a ton of free time I will try again. |

I would make sure your Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve is not caked up with carbon black soot, or some of the hoses that connect into it. My metro just had to have that done. My idle was really rough and it would get better as I gave it gas but it would also hesitate sometimes when giving it gas on the road. Also the intake manifold could be all caked up too. Some people completely clean out their intake manifolds every 150,000 as proper maintenance. So yeah pull off the hose going into it and just check for black carbon deposits.

No, the EGR was clean and the CV was installed. The thread is so old that the car was sold 6 months ago <G> ... |

i have a horrible engine shake but only when the car is warm and i come to a complete stop, and only while idling, the clutch feels like it only engages about 1/3 of the way then it gets super easy and nothing happens for the rest of the way, compression is good so no problems there, i think it might be something to do with the clutch, any way to test this? |
