Well, 5 weeks after ordering I got my gear all the way across the other side of the world and back from Canada. Boy, I thought the US mail was slloooowwwww. Got it on today with help from Metroschultz, a tranny full of schromesh, 2 new axles cam seal, oil and filter and timming belt and felt like I had a brand new car. It felt like I had a 4 cylinder under the hood. I could shift into 4th at 25mph and accelerate. I could shift into 5th at 35mph and accelerate up to highway speeds. I frequently skipped 3rd gear. Maybe I can do 1,3,5 now vs 1245? What was the stranges was the buzzing or burrrring noise from the oem muffler when you get ready to shift. I bet with a cherry bomb this car sounds great with this cam gear. My last car I put on a strup coffee can exhaust I lost 3mpg, but it would pull to redline on my scion xa. I exceeded traffic on my way home and insteading of reaching for 4th gear I was reaching to make sure it was in 5th or if I could shift it to 6th. If youstube behaves, I hope to have a video soon. Well worth the 40 bones. I cant wait to give this car a good driving. I use to love sliding my scion xa around. I use to take off ramps in a drift, on ramps and some of the compound banked curves where I live. Nothing like turning left to go right. |

Do you have a cam? (like a specific grind) Oh I laughed a little at the statement, "It felt like I had a 4 cylinder under the hood." |

The 3 cylinder has a cam shaft??? I thought it just used the gear? Just kidding, its the oem cam. Paul has the xfi cam and I was impressed with it. I have looked for one at the junkyards with no luck. Of course now I have the 10 degree advance, which cant be used with that as its already advanced 5 or so degrees. |

So the Econo cam from 3 tech isn't identical (or close) in timing specs to the XFi? |

It's Customs that slows things down. IMHO America, so un-trusting. That 4 cylinder is what I was after when I got my Geo, I'm glad you got yours! All this with just the new cam gear is remarkable, I'm happy for you, Cobb!Cherry bomb. That's what I wanted but got the 12" Jones glasspack which is basically the same, eh. Flow through with a guttural hot rod sound. I'm waiting for Winter to turn left to go right.

The wife's Metro has the stock cam and a 10 degree advanced timing gear. The power is way better! Just the gear alone is well worth the $40.00 and nobody would be disappointed doing this mod. I think every Metro owner should at least get a gear. I am moving this to Product Reviews. |

Have the people at three tech tinkered with more of an advance? |

There are 6, 8, and 10 available. I don't think anything more than 10 will work. One tooth off on a timing belt is like 18 degrees and some of us know how that dont work. |

You could put the 6 on backwards and put it 1 tooth forward. 12 degrees? (I have no idea if you can put a cam on backwards.) |

12 is too much. or 3 tech would have made one. but no you cant put a cam gear on backwards... the star gear wouldnt even bolt up... and the other gear would stick out too far and not line up with the crank. |

Thanks, Potter. Got me to thinking... you might want a glasspack that's longer than 12" It would be a little quieter but a tighter fit. I'm thinking of driving down the road and having the exhaust compete with the sound system. Well, and talking for that matter. Engine off in the garage I'd have my volume at say 9-10 for loud. On the road I'm twice that at 18+ for loud and I always hear the hummmmm of the exhaust anyway. Getting that 'drives like a 4 cylinder' performance has basically meant 'race Geo.' This 10 deg. cam gear by 3Tech is great for performance (read quiet) but the flow through glasspack... less constipated, is louder, more bass sounding! IMHO

Man, on my sand lane in 2, or 3rd just gassing it spun tires. It almost feels like in first it slips the clutch. I did this from a rolling start and put the camera in the back to hear the brrr noise. THe road was empty except for me. Man, I bet this car is even more fun to drive with the turbo setup someone else has, but doubt it gets the same fuel economy. DId your muffler upgrade effect fuel economy? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTOELhhYIHg |
