Plain Jane, no name oil is far superior to the very best stuff the racers used to get back in the 60's. Oil, metals, and the control of combustion with modern computers have all made huge strides. That's why most cars come with 10,000 mile oil change intervals today. |

When I got out of the service in early 86 one of my first jobs was tearing down core engines for a junk yard. You could tell who had been changing oil regularly, and who didn't. Alot of the engines would be full of the tar like gunk. Some times you would have to chip away the stuff to get on a head bolt. And the oil passages would be closed off. Yeah they had oil pressure, but no volume. And none of it getting back to the bottom fast enough |

some mobil one is base stock four , some is NOT the amsoil european spec 5w40 is ACEA A3 B3- B4 and meets a slew of the european OEM specs no mobil one oil does as well , mobil one 0w 40 is the closest mobil one has to offer and in this area it is the MB oil of choice at the dealerships BMW LLo1 from BMW direct meets ACEA A3 B3 and probably B4 but does not claim that on the packaging it is the cheapest bestest oil for the geo metro in this area for those who think quality synthetic oil costs too much ... take your pick engine later oil now i will spend money on the oil now |

Good discussion here. Has anyone experienced using Royal Purple. What about a lighter weight, say 5W-20. Looking to extend engine life and improve mpgs. Anyone? |

Got 70 MPG?

I recommend against using Royal Purple over other oils over the simple fact that the add packs in RP have less detergents in them. RP is more geared towards race motors where long oil change intervals aren't even considered as they're changed out within a few miles. If you're opting for a good true synthetic oil, I recommend going with Redline 5W-30. |

Sorry folks but engine oil is pretty much engine oil. I've delivered tanker loads (6000 gal) of bright stock (160 weight blending product) to various oil houses , bottling plants, around the country and you can see for yourself all the different brands in different color bottles being filled out of the same spouts without interuption. The only time a stoppage occurs is for a weight change. Say from a 10w-40 to a 5w-30. I've seen many NAME brands all coming off the same line. And, more importanly, had my questions answered by the people working in those same oil houses. Most ALL the oil additives used in this country, I've delivered it from California to Ohio to Texas, comes from Lubrisol Corp. in Painesville, Ohio. It's a combination of the different weight stocks used and the additive package that determines the vis. Top Gear, retired truck driver, looking for way more than then the 6.1 mpg my last big truck with a Cat 3406 got. |

Moi? Nope, I'm working part time, married, and we are supporting her relatives! Electric bill was $320 last month. Two Geos and a Hyundai Accent. No money for Royal Purple. Got a case of CarQuest 10W30 synthetic a year ago. Think I'll buy some next Fall. Besides, I worked for Gates', rechargeable battery division in El Paso, Texas. Yea, as in fan belts Gates'. They have batteries made in Mexico - cheaper - and put any of a dozen different company's labels on the "custom" battery pack. Worked for the 'pointy haired boss' and was happy to get fired from that place.
