Does anybody have a preference for a circulating block heater versus a freeze plug heater for a 1996 1.3L metro engine? The circulating block heaters look like a tight fit and I heard that if you put in a circulating block heater you had to also use a oil pan heater or you would circulate cold oil in a hot engine. Any truth to this? |

I learned about the circulating block heaters here on this web-page about one year ago. http://geometroforum.com/topic/804482/1/ http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000I8VKOY I have two Geo Metros and put such heaters on both cars. I use mine with a $4.00 Walmart timer to warm the engine every morning before I leave for work. I have never had a vehicle with a standard block heater so I do not know how it compares. I am very happy with the "Kats" heater. I mounted mine almost exactly the same way as Hacksaw. |

Hi geosedan- I've experience with the freeze plug type heaters and they seem to work quite well. Be sure to securely route the power cord so it doesn't get burned, frayed, or torn loose. Depending on the power plant design and ancillaries, the freeze plug type heaters can be very easy to install or done only when the engine is on the bench during a full rebuild. Edward |

I am getting ready to do this to both my vehicles. I live with 2 miles of every store under the sun and it can take my honda with block heater plugged in for 8 hours 2 miles before it starts to deliver heat. THe only hold up for me is the reviews of poor quality of these heaters.
