Tire pressure?

My 13"s say (MAX PSI 35) How mucjh over max pressure do maost of you run. My Geo will coast great at about 40-45 but once in the 60-65 range it feels like to much resistance when trying to coast down or out of down slopes. Will tire pressure help with drag.

A firmer tire will be less drag. I run 13s on the Rocket. At 40psi. I know there are others here who run more than that. I run good tires, but they are narrow. So when its very wet up here. I must use extra caution. They can hydroplane, and that sucks. At the Bonneville, to get on the Salt. You must have a min. of 40psi. They recommend going as high as the manufacter says is safe. As the tire rolls, one part is decelerating, the other is excelerating. Its a very strange physics thing. More pressure though does help.

I run 38 psi. Conservative I know but it's possibly the max. safety factor designed into the 35 psi max.?
:hmm If my product said 35 psi I would have added a low fudge factor to allow for faulty gauges and user error like checking the tire pressure when HOT. :'(

It doesn't say minimum or perfect pressure does it? Not that I've seen. :news
So everyone runs MAX which actually makes the max the norm. :smackface
One site suggests +/- 6 psi damages tires and you loose 1 psi per 10 deg. in temperature drop 80 to 20 deg. F is 6 psi.

I think it may be more than that. I think I lost like 12 from 70 to 20, then again i'm not real sure what they were before.

Some people run over the max, some people run under the max, and others run below. What I suggest is you run all three; i.e. 40, 44, 48 with 44 being max and see which one you like. Rolling resistance benefits diminish at a certain point, you are wasting your time putting in 50psi.

*all these are guesstimated numbers, your results will vary.

My 35 psi max cold tires are inflated to 40-41 psi cold (comfortable outside temperature). Seat of the pants testing, I found the higher pressure gives substantially increased coasting distance.

I have an uncle who retired from uniroyle tire in Auburn Alabama and I asked him how much psi I could run in my metro. He asked how much my car weighed and I said about 1600 lbs. He said a car that was that light would have no problems using 45 psi. in the tires. So I started filling the tires up to 45+. So far there has been no problems with any of my vehicles using the higher pressures. the only long term down side is the premature wear. But if you buy a 60,000 mile tire and get 50,000 out of it and it only cost $35 then the return on additional fuel mileage is worth the extra psi.

I never get the full mileage out of my tires anyway, so that's not a problem. Thanks for the info.

The guy on the Chopper, when they flash out to the races. I have ridden a lot of miles beside him. Chipman. They had him dressed up like Billy, from Easyriders. Chipman said he would have done that for free. He really enjoyed spending the day holding onto that showgirl. :lol
He smacked up that bike shortly after shooting that. It only took about 1yr to rebuild the bike, almost 3 to rebuild him.
I used to walk by that coffee shop on my way to high school for 2yrs. The Whistle Stop.

i have the exact same tires, I run 50 too, I noticed quicker acceleration with them filled up to 50! Much better than when I hadnt checked them in a while and they were at 20 lol
