Johnny, is there a feed on new posts? If not, google has a service called Feedburner, which claims to be able to create a feed for any site. There's one for Ecomodder and suzuki forums, but not here as far as i can tell. That'be handy for those of us who are not on all the time. :type

Forgive my ignorance, but can someone explain what an RSS feed is, and how it works?

I ventured into this and unless I have a hosting service that allows .xml uploads, I cannot utilize this tool. However, Zetaboards is working on an RSS feed tool that will work and will be released sometime in the future.

According to Wikipedia...
RSS (most commonly expanded as "Really Simple Syndication") is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works—such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardized format. An RSS document (which is called a "feed", "web feed", or "channel") includes full or summarized text, plus metadata such as publishing dates and authorship. Web feeds benefit publishers by letting them syndicate content automatically. They benefit readers who want to subscribe to timely updates from favored websites or to aggregate feeds from many sites into one place.

Thanks for checking, Johnny. Seems odd that they don't support feeds already.

I'm looking forward to the software update.

RSS is basically like "home delivery" of a newspaper. instead of you having to goto wawa or a newstand to get your paper (analogous to GOING TO geometroforum.com and clicking new posts)

think of RSS as an automated robot that drives to wawa for you to get the paper or a PAPER BOY dropping the paper off at your door step BUT RSS goes even further potentially.

also RSS is TWO SIDES. you have the "feed" and you have the aggregator IE the software on your computer or phone etc.. that GOES AND GETS the "feed" generated by the site. Takes both to REALLY make it work but you can also just VIEW the feed page.

JM almost has all he needs. the NEW POSTS link is basically what the feed page would be but that page would need to have the actual NEW CONTENT also in place IE the actual posts. you could then assign that page in your RSS software. Kind of.

instead the "site" takes new content at "X" interval and puts it into "one" document so to speak. Your computer can then "drive to the wawa" for you and "grab" this new content

it can even CUSTOMIZE the content for you almost like the paper boy going through your paper each morning and pulling out all the parts you READ daily and just putting THAT on your coffee for you.

in theory you can pick and choose what you want delivered (if the site is rigged up to allow that kind of detailed feed) or it can just be an "ala carte" feed.

What would be nice is a MOBILE VIEW of this site ie something text only compatible with tiny screens (cell phones etc.. ie 320x240 to 800x480) with posting capacity.

so I could log in via my blackberry or my N800 etc.. more easily. some "forum" software has this and you can simply "turn it on" if its not built it in I would imagine its very hard to implement.

Smart people. great explanation folks. only problem is.... I still don't understand a word you wrote. It's all Japanese to me. Maybe its just my age. If I had a time machine I'd go back in time 20 years and learn all of this computer stuff. Heck I just learned how to text on my Droid yesterday. Technology is so cool but you have to be a teenager to understand it. I still like a rotary phone and a kid who can change my tv stations while I sit on the couch. :D

Yes, I always thought children could be an excellent excuse for violating the child labor laws. :thumb

Since I don't have kids, good thing, eh, then to my understanding bogs' saying... My dog can't fetch my news paper but RSS can fetch news from forums. :smackface
