Downtown Dallas with the 00' two door 3/5 yesterday , I was in pretty heavy traffic and wondering how the "Mighty Metro" was going to keep up.
I was honestly impressed at how well I kept up .
Then the best was when I was entering the freeway on an upward ramp . There was an SUV right behind me at the stop light right before the ramp . The light turned green and I saw the SUV jackrabbit from the stop light . I thought to myself :thumb "Ok" . I let her rip and the SUV faded in no time at all !
No challenge at all ! Entered the freeway and about 1/2 mile down the road , the SUV blew by me and I just looked over and smiled. The SUV owner would not even acknowledge that I was there :D
Just a little fun,
Raz

Way to go! B-)

I have the same reactions around here. It's hard to admit you are wrong, made a mistake and got fooled. "Sure it can handle anything." We have SUVs go off the road all the time in the winter. :lol When they can't out run me I know they are upset. :evillol

there is a need for trucks and things that get crap for fuel economy
but that is not to say everyone has a need to have one
many people who commute by themselves in a big car / truck would be much better off in a geo metro

i have some cars that do not get good fuel economy and a van which is even worse
i choose to use the geo metro whenever possible / most of the time

but
sometimes i need what the others can do and the geo metro can not do
=================================
do not drink the koolaid - the earth is very robust

worry about what the fools are doing to your economic future ... you are already drowning in a sea of debt ..... there is no solution .

my generation thanks your generation for installing the puddingheads that killed America

I am on the wall on this one. Its not about need its about WANT.

I have an SUV not because I REALLY need one but because I WANT ONE (now I happen to like small efficient SUV hence my 88 cherokee) but thats besides the point.

if someone WANTS to drive a gas guzzling SUV I have no problem with that.

what I do have a problem with is when people WANT to drive an electric car and our government our car companies etc.. say NO you can not have one because we do not like them because we can not rape you enough for them.

its not a the tech is not available. IT IS.

its not a the tech is too expensive. ITS NOT its cheaper than GAS CARS!

its not that its short lived. IT WILL OUTLIVE YOU and likely YOUR children too.

its pure greed and this is not 100% CONSUMER fault. There is little the consumer can do without education and they have a pretty good level of control on education and information dissemination.

also I hate it when people say your ruining the planet. this is hogwash.

even our weapons are NOTHING to this planet. I love it when clueless people say we have enough nukes to destroy this planet 10 times over.

We don't have enough nukes to do anything more than put a few "pin pricks" in the TINY SKIN layer of this planet. the nukes going off on earth would be little more than me flinging some SAND at your skin in comparison.

what we WOULD destroy 10 times over what WE WILL ruin on this planet with our gas guzzlers is nothing more than "OUR" capacity to comfortably LIVE on this planet.

the planet itself will go right along without much consequence or a care in the world.

Oddly enough SUV are the ideal platform to make electric. MORE ROOM for batteries :-)

nerys, please don't go into another rant about EVs...

Glad to know that the Geo did well in traffic. I never, ever, had a problem in traffic when mine was stock. I could even get up to 90+ without a problem.

I once had a guy in a 350z ride next to me on the Interstate giving me a funny look. This was when the Metro was boosted and running great. He probably thought it was funny to see a Metro with 15" wheels, lowered, and an exhaust, imagine his suprise when i burped the throttle enough to get the BOV to go off, lots of fun.

where Geos come to die

I would drive a truck or somthing, but i jsut hate the people who have ONLY a truck or a gas guzzler and they live in the city and have no use for it. I live in the sticks and used my old geos to do yardwork and we did some pretty hardcore work for a geo

Nothing wrong with having a big vehicle if you have a use for it. It's the 95 pound secretary commuting to work in a 6,000 pound Escalade that drives me crazy.

Duct tape heals all wounds

Boy, watching some of the responses in this particular thread reminded me of another thread that started on a completely different forum (about pickup trucks) and was spotted and reposted here about I believe z34's fast little metro.

Their comments were much like some of the ones I see here, showing a lot of intolerance for other peoples choices in life. There also appears to be little comparison with real life. Size of a vehicle doesn't necessarily determine efficiency or gas mileage, for one thing.

I've owned several large station wagons in my life, the smallest easily topping 4k pounds. All of them returned mileage better than say, the little wedge shaped RX-7 from Mazda, despite their all running v-8 engines and having the aerodynamics of a brick when compared to the little Mazda rotary, and yet they still got better or the same mpgs.

I hope to avoid falling into the mindset where your perspective is the only valid perspective, but really aside from all that people are and should be allowed to drive whatever makes them happy. Including secretaries who have Escalades, more power to them, they are not asking you to pay for either the lease, insurance, or the gas (unless you married one of them :lol ).

well part of the mentality bogs (that I don't agree with totally mind you) is that while we do not have to pay for there big trucks WE ALL do have to pay for the impact that truck has on our environment.

MY position is that its not the people who should change what they buy its THE TECHNOLOGY that should change. People say move closer to work use a bike or train etc..

I say I live 54 miles from work it would take 6 hours to take "trains" to work thats 12 hours a day on the train (can you say ahh NO) and it would cost me MORE MONEY than the gas I put in the car. 4 of us goto work thats 4 train tickets PER LEG and its 3 legs. the first leg alone would exceed the cost of the fuel for the entire trip to work BOTH WAYS. :-) and thats driving the 19mpg ultra comfortable VAN !! one ticket alone for the first leg is more expensive than the round trip gas in the Geo.

also nimrods who say move are clueless. they RENT so its nothing for them to get up and move. when you. When you own a home (well no one OWNS their home when you rent a home from the government) you can not simply move.

the COST of the move will be greater by orders of magnitude than all the gas your going to use in your entire lifetime MANY TIMES OVER. IE someone who moves to save gas money without being under VERY special conditions is an economical moron :-)

There is something to be said for comfort. I don't own an escalade or anything like one. I can't afford it. but THEY ARE amazingly comfortable vehicles to ride in. I could see people owning one for NO other reason than the creature comforts and ride comfort.
