ok, first fill up was 6.932 gallons at 151869.9 miles.
next one was 8.5 gallons at 152006.1 miles.
Is that 16 mpg?

First off, one tank does not determine MPG, but yeah, those numbers are low even for an automatic. Temp gauge reading normal?

Well, 152,006.1 - 151869.9 = 136.2 / 8.5 = 16.0235.

My question would be was the 6.932 a fill to the "click" and was the 8.5 the same? Adding more gas would lower mpg.

temp seems to be in line with others I've read on here. Starts cold, idle for less than a minute, then up to about halfway after a couple minutes driving. Stays there forever.
The first time was to the click/shutoff, and the second I added less than a half gallon, just to even it out to 8.5.
I do "bag" it once in a while, but not much, and usually drive around 2 miles at a time...to work, home for lunch, back to work, then home.

With that driving, and a manual, you will get about 30mpg. (that is just a tidbit of info) I don't know how an auto behaves in that situation, but I would assume it would be close to that.

Bad Bent is correct you have to fill up exactly the same way each time. Also different pump may click off at different times, I've been to gas stations that aren't exactly level and that can cause the pumps to be different. So use the same pump for most accurate results.

Yep, went to a different gas station and put the hose in waited for the shut off click and the piece of :shit wasted gas all over my side panel, fender and tire. Snowing out but I wasted a lot of their widow wash fluid washing off my car.

The fill tube is said to be worth 1/2 gallon of extra fuel when :shit like this happens.

Thanks for listening to my rant. ;)

152167
8 gallons
161 miles
20 mpg on 87 octane
just filled to click off with 91 octane. Gonna replace waterpump and belt in a couple days, and set the timing back to normal, instead of the 10 degrees advance.

HS. Something has to be really wrong if thats all the MPG your getting. Is your cam timing off?

And the usual battery of questions...
Compression Test?
Tune-up? Wires, plugs, dist./rotor.
Air Pressures?
Throttle Body Coolant hoses clean?
Wheel bearings or brakes dragging?
Does it have the Check Engine Light on?

Ok, wanted to wait to open this "possible" can of worms till it was warmer, but why not now? saw the car. drove the car. Ran like crap. Wouldn't idle in gear, and looked like in an earthquake when in park. Bought the car. Changed plugs, oil, and advanced the distributor. Ran very well and smooth. Up to 85 mph with lots of throttle left. Next day pulled the head w/cam, and the gear and sent to 3tech. Got head back, took out of box and bolted on. Started car first try. Idle crappy(way high). Almost 2 hours later of fiddling, adjusting belt (It would only start within 3 tooth space. dead on, 1 forward or 1 back.) etc, and thought I had it good. It would adjust good, I would shut it off, wait a couple minutes, and upon restart would be way different again. Finally got it stable. next morning, wouldn't start. That night, reset to original positions with belt timing right on, adjusted idle AFTER it was warmed up, adjusted distrib, idle screw, got it to where it seemed high in park, but good in drive. Been that way since. It starts right up(within 1 second:say: one one thousand) even at zero degrees. most of the time high cold idle that lowers after a couple minutes driving(warm up). Sometimes it starts at low idle but I rev it once or twice and it goes high (like it should). I don't warm it up, but pretty much start and go. Within 4-5 minutes gauge starts moving to normal center position. 2 minutes later i turn it off cause I;m at work or home, with 2 stops (1 light,1 sign). 0 to 60 in 24-26 seconds. Seems like no throttle power difference beyond half way, so no reason to go WOT. Seems like its lacking power, but hell, it starts and is reliable and keeps up with most traffic. Exhaust gasket leak, and now water pump leak so I haven't been able to use my katz on the coldest days. Sucks. Did have to clean out the egr crap. Have not done compression test, but probably will next week. . Rolls pretty good so no drag, and no engine light. Cleaned distrib cap/rotor when installing head. Doesn't smoke, use oil,or miss. The only problem I have is it doesn't like to maintain constant speed. Unless it's under a good load (25 mph in 3rd) it will surge( gas,no gas, gas,no gas) if I try to maintain speed, so it's either accelerating or decelerating. Gonna seafoam it this weekend. Thoughts?

What I don't see are the plug/coil wires, TPS adjustment, vacuum hoses and are the coolant wires on the TB hot?

The short trip may be the issue, but the katz would help that. ^o)
Take a look at Engine Idle for some suggestions?

and set the timing back to normal, instead of the 10 degrees advance.
That's going to be a huge mistake. My suspicion is that your engine needs at least a valve job, probably rings too, and advancing the timing just made it enough better to mask the problem. Get the compression tested.
