I have my cam out at Delta cams being reground. I want to install an advance timing gear. I have heard +6 will give me the XFI setup with the cam being reground. I have also seen the rebuld JM did with a forum member that used the +8 gear with a Delta cam regrind. Whic one should I use?

Does the Delta cam advance the ignition any? If it doesn't, i'd go +10 if you drive slow.

A preset is good. 3Tech sells them. But they are matched to his grinds. SRD has one that is changable. You can run it where ever it runs the best. What grind are you getting. A little more info please.

It's Delta Cam's XFI grind.

If its the same, same grind as 3Techs, then the +10 is the one to use. Provided the grind is just like his.

Use no more than a +8 with a Delta cam. If you city drive, go with a +6.

and what would the consequences of advancing too much be? say you have a head with .100" shaved off of it, lets say that retards cam timing 5* (I dont know how much has to be removed to equal a real degree...) and then a +10 is really only a +5 overall? a tooth is 18* I believe

I would assume less power, and/or unstoppable ping.

Got 70 MPG?

The delta camshaft is not ground to the same specifications as Mike's eco camshaft. Getting a +10 degree camshaft gear will most like cause you to detonate uncontrolably while driving all the time.

and this is at the factory recommended (re-checked and adjusted) 5* ignition timing?

That I'm not sure of. My camshaft is a 3tech eco camshaft. I would assume that you would have to set it factory, or maybe even further back to keep it from preigniting.

well now its not pre-igniting if the ignition is coming from the spark plug
