I finally figured the MPG for the first time after the engine rebuild on my 1992 Geo Metro lsi automatic. I am getting around 33-34 MPG. Is this the average for this vehicle? Anyone know what the max is you can get with an automatic with the econo-cam shaft/ +10 timing gear on an automatic? Would it make a huge difference adding these to my engine? |

I am sure you can get 40+ from it if driven correctly and help from the cam and gear. |

Depends on how fast you drive. Remember the automatic is only a 3 speed, and it doesn't have a torque converter lock up. |

The average mpg on my 91 Metro 3 cylinder with the slush box transmission is between 34-38 depending on how I drive and the road conditions. The best ever was on a vacation road trip where I was able to take my time on back roads rather than the interstate highway. On that trip I was able to get 41.8 mpg. Remember, I had time on my hands to take it nice and easy. The mpg killer is the automatic transmission's 4.1 final drive ratio coupled with it's heavier weight, lack of lockup converter and no overdrive. |

I get a steady 38+ mpg with my 93 auto 4dr in mixed city/highway on the flatlands of Florida. I do a daily hiway commute for 100 miles and about 60 miles of that is @ 70mph and the rest @ 45-65. This is with the 02 circuit open so it should do better once I find the fault. It also has a fresh rebuild on bottom and top. The mpg is running at the posted EPA numbers so I'm not complaining.

Got 70 MPG?

Your MPG's will get better as you go along Dustin. Remember, the rings aren't fully broken in yet, so the motor is still low on compression. After 1,500 miles you should do a compression check to see where they're at... Remember what I told you about the hilly parkway we have to take to work every day? DWL (Driving With Load). That's the only way you're going to see decent MPG's from driving on that road. If you don't DWL you'll instantly lose 4-5 MPG on that road. |
