I forgot to add the other day. Somewhere around here is a thread showing just how tough the G10s are. It was a vid of people giving a G10 a 10 shot of nitrous, then a 50 shot, then a 100 shot. They were all amazed it did not blow up. Which was there objective. It was a tired ragged motor. After 6, 100 shots, it finally gave up. Thats tough. |

It has been 50 weeks since the Weekend Rebuild. I have driven about 43000 miles since then and I am amazed at how well the car is running. I too am amazed at what three tiny cylinders can do. A well-maintained Geo Metro can earn the saying: "Less is More." I often think of the motorcycles I have had that had similar or larger engines, cost more to buy, insure, and maintain and didn't get nearly the gas mileage. On both sides of my commute today the road surfaces were a glaze of ice with blowing snow and gusty winds. Lots and lots of cars in the ditch. But of all the cars I have had in the past, this Metro (with Firestone Winterforce snow tires on it) is the best car I have had for winter driving. I actually enjoy driving it in bad conditions. And since I spent a lot of odd hours in the fall painting tar and foundation seal coating on the vulnerable areas of the car, I am not too concerned about all the gravel and salt on the road. I think the car is pretty well protected. By the way, someone here a few weeks ago recommended MPT oil additives. I looked them up and sort of on impulse bought some for my engine and transmission. One thing I am pretty sure of after about 1100 miles after putting in the additives, is that shifting into second gear is even less likely to grind than when I installed Synchromesh alone. In other words, I think the additive IS helping the transmission. And spending $10 for the additive is not too bad if done only once every 30K miles or so. What do I think of the stuff in the motor oil? Jury is out. |

Never heard of anyone having any problems related to that area. I'd say they didn't put it in because they determined it was not needed. And they were right. |

I say this is an amazing engine. I ran one once with a broken piston for about 2 months goint to work and back each day 65+mph, 38 mile round trip. Break was between the ring slots. Finally started burning so much oil I had to fix it (chunks of metal in oil pan) installed another piston and it ran great. I've never seen a cylinder wall with a ridge, very tough material. I've heard of several people getting 300,000 miles off original rings. I've got a donor motors with valves so badly burned that I did not see how it ran long enough to get so bad. Two of the valves had slots big enough to drop an aspirin through. Burned valves is the onliy achilles heal of this motor. All of the cars in my family crank on the first try and keep on ticking. My daughter in law drives one that was a donor car and headed for the slavage yard. It had been wrecked. We replaced the bumper, radiator, rear wheel bearings, and brakes all around. She's been been driving it for three years now. |

And with SS valves, it won't have a problem. |

My 94 has over 300,000 miles on it, and it don't use, or leak a drop of oil. Still runs good. I'd say they are pretty tough. |
