Im not looking forward to the summer heat but last year i researched a small space DIY AC using a small ice box with a computer fan, fountain pump and ice water. Im going to ave to try something because it can suck here in LA in 100deg. stuck in traffic.

I filled up today at 8.75 gallons and got 42mpg. My last tank was 40mpg. In between these 2 fill ups i did the Bumper air dam mod, changed and fixed a stuck brake caliper with new pads and rotors, plus new Cap and rotor. I was hoping to get at least 4-5 with the mods but like i said mods were made between fillups. Half of my commute is in the middle of the night so so. cal temps here is a freezing 54deg. HAHA. Winter day temps is about 70. I also have the connection sleeve at the air intake disconnected so its getting air straight from the engine compartment.

Hopefully my next tank fill up will read 44-45mpg. Im planning on lowering about 1.25" so maybe that will help with some of the aerodynamics and doing the stock timing advance. I hope so because im not looking forward to a bumpier ride.

Gas $ here in Los Angeles today was $3.29 for super. It will most likely start rising again and peak at about Easter. Cost me $28 to fill up with 8.75 Gallons.

Hope you're not paying for that "super" gas, because it's anything but super for our cars. Chances are you'll get lower mileage with high test gas, unless your car is tuned for it.

Please, if you're going to lower your car, do a scientific test of its effect on mileage. Leave the car alone for three tanks or more to get a good steady baseline. Then cut the springs and don't make any changes for three or more tanks after. I don't think it's going to make much difference, but I've been wrong before, and would really like to know.

I hear you there. It was murder last summer in Tennessee with no A/C. I am damn glad my new ride has it.
In Charleston, SC we take vacations to Tennessee to escape the heat!

FWIW, it will hit 70 degrees here tomorrow...

I have always been told even by some of my buddies that work across the street from me at the auto repair shop to use Marvel mystery oil from time to time, because it helps to get rid of deposits in the engine which can contribute to poor engine performance and therefore poor gas mileage . Also I tried Zmax I think the performance and gas mileage improved somewhat. I have seen it advertised on many of those shows on speed so I think it's good.

A good synthetic oil will not leave deposits. Use good oil and there is no need for cleaners. FWIW, running 2 or 3 quarts of auto tranny fluid in your engine will clean up things very nicely (of course, fill it the rest of the way up with oil). Let the car idle like this for 30 minutes and then drain, flush, and refill with synthetic. This is a Mazda (not sure if Chevy/Suzuki does it) factory approved method.
