Should be starting my wifes Metro for the first time after complete rebuild. How do people recommend running the first time? The Delta cam I recieved said for 20 minutes between 2000-2500 rpms. I've heard this before when I installed a crane cam is a chevy V8. Let me know your thoughts.. :hmm

I've seen other threads about this, maybe someone should create a sticky. Seems to be important information!

Here's the last "engine break-in" thread ... I thought was good and answers your question adequately...

Problem with break in advice is that there are 100 opinions and no answers.

Most important, pull the coil wire off and crank it on the starter until the oil light goes out. Sometimes the oil pump doesn't prime and you don't want your brand new parts rubbing together for 30 seconds until you give up waiting and shut it off.

I agree with cranking until the oil light goes out but with no sparkplugs for as little load as possible.

Both really good points. Alot of guys believe in "breaking them in hard." I really don't like that, personally. You have spent a lot of time and money building something your proud of. I go very slow on my break ins. I get the engine warm/hot. Then cool it off, then again. And I repeat this till I feel its ready to drive. Then I run it easy. And be ready to change out your oil, soon. There is always stuff in a fresh build. I could eat out of my blocks when the are ready to assy. But something alwasy shows up in the oil. Others will chime in. With the time and effort you put in. I don't risk it. I hate leaning over fenders. If you missed a step, or something is just not right, then an easy break in helps show that. Be gentle, "its my first time"
