I know this might sound silly but your work area projects a sense of Calmness and order. You dont have parts and junk scattered all over the place. (like me) Everything is very clean. Looks like you were well focused on the project. Again I say Job well done. ................................

Started the aero mods today. Removed the passenger mirror, cardboard grill block, and cardboard wheel skirts. I'm going to drive this week and see how the MPG's turn out. Drove it for 10 miles and the temp remained as it always has at 204. My final wheel skirts and grill block will be fiberglass. I'll incorperate an air dam in with the grill block when I layup the fiberglass. Maybe I'll top 60 mpg this week.... ![]() ![]() ![]()

Heh, having worked in a corrugated manufacturing place, we used to love to watch the old mans face when a new worker would slip up and say 'cardboard'. Probably no one outside of the industry would understand it, but its a fair insult to the initiated, he would always look like he was about to go into apoplectic shock

Well the $0.97 cardboard worked well today. I got home with an average of 61.8 mpg. . That is a 12.8% gain over best mpg from work. This was with a combination of checking air pressure and changing the last break in oil to synthetic 5w30 yesterday. It's also the first warm day since I've had the car, 70 degrees driving home. I'm really pleased so far and would to like thank the people on this forum for a lot of great advice. I did notice the fan coming on when I got home. What size hole do people recommend for the radiator area? Now I need to form up permanent skirts and grill block, then it will be on to the kamm back and belly pan |

You know, with all the skirting going on, I'm fairly surprised I haven't seen anyone mention using ordinary roofing flashing to make them. You'd have to of course seperate the dissimilar metals, probably with rubber, but with some artful ribbing it would be easy to mold into almost any shape and should be extremely light. Curious if anyone else had a similar thought. |

looking good can't wait to see the finished fiberglass airdam/grille block combo that will be really neat and hopefully you see even better gains. You should show a step-by-step of making the airdam/grille block bumper and wheel skirts. Are you going to do front wheel shirts also? at this rate you might make 70MPG good luck!!! |

I will do my best on a guide for the fiberglass front grill block/air dam and wheel skirts. I did the fiberglass on my sled a few years back and it worked out well. Now I need to get some foam and start forming up the buck. No plans to do front wheel skirts, but the air dam will be done such a way to direct air around the front tires. This project has been great and I hope to drive it to GeoPalooza. |

I got some more done to PC. Had the windows tinted this past weekend and my wife and I put a new headliner in. She picked out the fabric. It came out nice, very easy to do in these cars. I still need to get the skirts and grill block complete. Been tied up with other things and keeping my sons '94 rolling. Headliner out and old fabric off. It was drooping real bad. ![]() ![]() Fabric cut and glued in place. ![]() All trimmed up with edges glued and ready to go. ![]() Installed. She will be covering the sun visors also. ![]() |

Very good job. I'm interested in the mpg you'll get, out of the higher gear trans. And that headliner is really nice. I like it. Edited by drdan52000, May 5 2010, 11:56 PM.
