I need to rebuild the bottom end of my 97 G10. I have a block from probably a 92. Are the blocks interchangable from a 97 to a 92? How about the heads? |

Yes, just reuse the intake manifold in the car your driving along with all of it's sensors. When you get a new oil pump, order one for a '97 engine as the '92 oil pump is missing a sensor that your car's computer requires for it to operate correctly. |

watch the oil pump gasket if you use a newer gasket on the older blocks you will have a major leak one has both oil holes round, newer has one oval one round. old blocks do not have material there and you have an instant leak. i don't know what years this affects but its easy to spot once you know about it . http://z3.ifrm.com/165/2/0/e172725//e172725.gif |

Thanks jellybean! Fixin' to install a new oil pump (96 up) with a metal gasket tomorrow. didn't know about the block difference. I'll prefit the gasket to the block to make sure I won't have an instant leak. I have an older JDM motor (pre 96), but have all the new style (96 up) sprockets/gears installed. |

It was easy to see the difference in the gaskets. As long as you take a look there shouldnt be any problem....Dan out. |
