Hi I just started here and have a 98 lsi auto. I cant weld but otherwise have every tool known to man lifts etc. I have $1200 and would like to know what can be done to a metro. For some reason 3 tech doesnt make 8 valve cams for anything after 94? why? Thx in advance

You can PM him directly at suprf1y but I'd assume, speculate that it's the ol' supply and demand problem. I'm thinking the creation of one cam mock-up would eat up your budget plus and would not be profitable. But I've been wrong before. ^o) :lol

You may still ad a cam gear and the other various parts I've added to get some horsepower. There's still a lot of work you can do in the way of port & polishing, shaving, and as mentioned the Stainless Steel Racing Header and Aluminum Underdrive Single Pulley if you don't have A/C. Double pulley w/A/C.

right im listening advancing the timing and uping the octane would help a bit as would the heads but i mean if im assuming right isnt the cam the biggest part of this package? Btw my car does have a/c and im keeping it lol so if i ever do get underdrives then i would have to option on the two belt. One thing doesnt the underdrive affect the power steering or something. I forget where I heard that. Thx for the info though!

The timing yes, octane, only if you increase the compression would you want higher octane to control the detonation or pinging. Your engine may not benefit from higher octane as much as a high quality gasoline. :hmm
The cam and cam gear were the right up there with the header and exhaust in terms of performance increase, for me. 'Garbage in, garbage out' comes to mind. There are other cam dealers available.
The underdrive pulley affected my throttle response; more pep. :D In talking with the SRD fellow, Adam(?), he suggested the three common SRD street/race mods were the pulley, header and aluminum flywheel (Like I have that kind of money :lol ). Now if you have power steering, lucky dog, I haven't a clue. :'(
Over the next week or longer you'll get more opinions from other members who have their 'poop grouped' and know more about your engine and how to improve it. :news

ok i agree with most things before mentioned but i was pretty sure advancing timing which just like adding any non n/a power booster or higher compression would eventually force on to need higher octane gas, I'll have to do more research on this. I'll keep ya posted thx for the goldmine though haha.

Advancing your timing would eventually get you to a point where you would need high octane gas, but long before that pint, you're going to find that there is no ignition timing adjustment on your 98 four cylinder.

Superf1y does make cams and I think even modifies heads for your engine, what's throwing you off is that you have a 16V head.

There are other places that make cams. I'm sure you can get anything ground that you want. In the Miata world, people who have a car that does not allow for adjusting the timing have made brackets that hold the CAS at a different angle (fooling the computer into doing what they want). Might be something to check into.
