I've got a 1997 Geo Metro 1.3L MFI 4 cyl (automatic transmission) that has had the check engine light pop up. I've had it scanned and the OBD code that it gives me is: P0443 - EVAP System Purge Control Valve Circuit Malfunction

Any information on what I need to correct this situation would be muchly appreciated. :ermm:

i just googled that code, it has to do with the purge valve on the charcoal canister check for broken vacuum lines first.

this is a circuit malfunction code
this is not a leak code
based on description provided

do not bother checking vacuum lines , even if they do leak the ECM does not care , yet , it may after the purge valve function s as designed

assuming no other DTCs - i would ask for Mode 6 test results if they are available
=============
get to the purge valve and measure supply to it
on both pins

see the how to section for the T pin thread

when connected key on engine off both pins at the purge valve must have 12v
if you disconnect the connector , only 1 will have 12v

get this far and report your test results

if needed , i can guide you to make the purge valve work / open and
test for vacuum on the port before and after opening it

Welcome to the forum, wintirwolf! :coffee

Follow mwebb's directions. :thumb He'll get you through the testing.

If you are keeping you car I'd suggest getting your own OBDII scan tool. Starting at $36 on eBay. They also throw "pending codes" when something may go wrong plus you can clear codes in case it's a false code. There are better ways to get code but this is budget.

My favorite site for understanding the codes that the Wife's Geo throws is http://www.obd-codes.com/p0443,<-- This links to your p0443 code.
