I have seen a couple posts about Toyota recalls. Flaming Toyota about the recalls. How glad they are they have a Geo. Like the Geo has been perfect. Geo has had troubles of its own. Here is a recall concerning brakes.

True enough, but nobody said these Geos are high end cars. For the price of a new Toyota, especially a Prius, I would certainly expect better quality control. |

Not all the Toyotas that are recalled are high end cars either. * 2005-2010 Avalon * 2009-2010 RAV4 * 2007-2010 Camry * 2008-2010 Sequoia * 2009-2010 Corolla * 2005-2010 Tacoma * 2008-2010 Highlander * 2007-2010 Tundra * 2009-2010 Matrix * 2009-2010 VENZA * 2004-2009 Prius I would still consider a Toyota if I was I was in the market for a new or used car. |

As vehicles get more technologically advanced there will be more problems with them. And that will not necessarily be a Quality Control problem. Some things can not be discovered until the vehicle has been in service. |

The only problem I saw with Toyota was their reaction to the problem, it reminded me a great deal of the Ford reaction to the Pinto, i.e. deny there is a problem, blame it on the customer/random part, finally admit there really is a problem but of course, by the time the last part comes by, your credibility is shot. |

Americans have a very short term memory. This will be forgotten, just like Fords exploding Pintos were forgotten. And all the other recalls and problems from ALL Vehicle Manufacturers. Toyota will be back on top in a few years time.

as a former owner and driver of two different "older" toyota corollas, an '87 and a '94, i can seriously say that the newer cars are wayyyyy too techie for me...if it didnt have so much techie stuff id love to get up to a 2000 model, if i hadnt gotten my lil geo ...its scary to not have yr brakes work much less have the "computer" get confused as to what is the brake and accelerator!!!yikes!... i do hope toyota can come out of this bad situation better than it has been ...you got to feel for the workers at the plants who probably think they did something wrong, which they didnt, it wasnt their fault, its all about the computer stuff i believe...even our computers that we type on get glitches just not when it involves driving, thankfully... |

For me, I like disparaging the Toyota Prius because of the freakin' green movement. For example, if you didn't vote for Al Gore, change all the lightbulbs in your home or drive a Toyota Prius then somehow you're not environmentally-conscious. Whenever I pass a Toyota Prius on the highway I sort of look over at them with a HA HA! look because they've been bamboozled into believing they're helping the environment more than I am....and paid upward of $26k to prove it. But in reality, the Geo Metro owner CHOOSES to drive a Geo (even when we can afford a heckuva lot more) because we're the true recyclers (in rehabbing an old Geo) and fossil fuel minimalists (when it comes to burning foreign oil). But in reality, if somebody gave me a Prius for free or for under $1500 I'd probably buy it. But only then!!

Fords exploding Pinto was *never* forgotten, which is why it makes such an apt comparison. Some 30 years afterwards people will still avoid ALL Pinto cars, not just the ones that had the problem, and I can't imagine too many places you could be and say 'Pinto' and not have someone else bring up the word 'explosion'. ___If your counting on short term memory to wipe something out, the last thing you want to do is keep dredging it up and making it worse with every iteration. I don't have a problem with Toyota as a brand, much less Ford as a brand, much less any other number of brands, and all brands as you point out have recalls. ___The difference is in how the recalls are handled, and quite frankly, Toyota crusked this recall up. No one else did it for them, they did it to themselves. |

I'm not sure of your age but people in their late 30's and older will remember the exploding '74 pinto. And you will see those same people driving a Ford. I doubt people younger than that will even know about it. And that's one of the things I mean by saying, people forget. It's not a big deal anymore. In fact I just remembered something about older pickup trucks that had the gas tanks behind the seat. Those were rolling fireballs also. Edited by iamgeo, Feb 8 2010, 05:10 PM.

I dunno, either I'm not making the point clearly enough, or your missing it. If I'm not saying what I'm trying to clearly enough, I apologize. |

The exploding pinto was the '74 model. I doubt there are many if any people selling or looking to buy a pinto of any year. I do understand your point. My point is, as time goes by, people tend to forget and just not care anymore. They will still buy from a MFG even though it sold cars that explode or accelerate suddenly. |
