I just replaced the original thermostat on my '98 Metro 1.0 with a Beck-Arnley 198 degree stat. Is this too high of a temperature? Should I stick with 190 or 195? |

I AGREE WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN! Anyway, the 198 one is the best choice, better mileage!

my car had over 100k on it when i got it and i do not know what brand / value thermostat is in it but ![]() right click on image , select view image , click 2x to expand image with a grill block with the snorkel from the air cleaner removed the red line is coolant temp , local driving , stop and go traffic, trying to minimize time at the stop lights , 24f ambient. my heat works well - even in the single digits ambient temperatures stable between 190f and 200f , it is normal for coolant temp to fluctuate up and down like that as the thermostat does it's thing |

I just put a 195 degree thermostat in my 1990 and my mileage has improved. I got 50 mpg yesterday in unfavorable winds driving 55 mph. |

I bought the 198 from Beck/Arnley through RockAuto. Going to NAPA, Pep Boys, and other online stores, I never saw any Metro thermostats higher than 195. My service manual states 1995 and newer Metros should use 190 - 197 stats. I also noticed that all the thermostats sold at NAPA, Advance Auto, Pep Boys, etc (as well as many online outlets) do not have the air bleed valve as the OEM does. The only brands I found with the valve are Beck/Arnley and the AC/Delco, which I can get through the dealer or from RockAuto for $18. (On a side note, I still refuse to visit AutoZone, and have told many of my friends their parts are junk. I can't believe how many people buy ValuCraft and DuraLast) Anyways, I decided to go with the stat that has the valve. Does it really make a difference? What do you guys think? Also, from what mwebb and chad stated, the rest of you agree 198 is a good choice as far as running more efficiently and obtaining better fuel economy? In regard to my whereabouts, I have been on an academic-related hiatus (study abroad) and a family tragedy that occurred last summer (which is why I was unable to attend Geopalooza '09). My car now has 104, 500 |

Ryan, Sympathy for family tragedy. Yes, I have wondered about the lack of the air valve. I just put in a 195 degree thermostat and it did not have the valve. I got all the antifreeze back into the system that came out so I do not fear a large bubble. Fred |

If I knew I could get a 198 degree thermostat, I would have put one in both cars. Too late, I got 195 in both. |

Just visit RockAuto.com; Christine will love it. What's the real advantage? Also, is that too hot of a thermostat for summer? Educate me on thermostats. |
