so after my rebuild, (rings, bearnings, and valves) i started her up and it fired right away but the motor seems to have a noise coming from the belt region. when i plug the vaccum line that is behind the carb that goes to the air cleaner it seems to go away and pur like a kittin. I dont see the correlation between these two and am hope the pros can help me out. I can post a you tube video if it would help. Also were does the black plug that is a ground that is located right on the coil plug into? I cant find where it goes for the life of me. One more thing, if anyone has the clamp that hold the speedo cable in and is willing to get rid of it cheep let me know
thanks eric

Fear the Mullet

A video and a pic of the hose would help a lot in this situation.

That little black plug should plug in at the distributor.

its the hose that is located at the back of the carb and points upwards and goes in the bottom of the aircleaner. I has some type of little box or something on it.

ahh that thing that when i plug it the noise goes away is the Idle Speed Control Solenoid Valve Silencer. Why does it change the sound of the engine?

The idle speed control is what most likely threw the code if you were fooling with it.

ok ill disconnect the battery tonight and plug in the distrib ground and see how see runs, since the sound seems to be coming from the belt pulley, water pump, alt area can i take the belt off and start it to possibly rule out the water pump and alt?

Just dont run it too long and run it hot. Did you post a video anywhere?

If you start the engine with no belt on, and the noise goes away, then it's the water pump or alt.

Thanks jonny. It can be a real pain to copy that link on my cell. That is my main means of internet communication after work hours as I don't have internet on any of my home computers.
