So I am due for an oil change on my Metro and I am wondering what type of oil I should run. The past 2 changes I have used Mobil 1 synthetic 5w30 but recently I have read a lot of threads where mwebb talks about "ACEA A3,B3-B4 5w,30 synthetic oil". My question is: can I buy said correct spec oil at Autozone? I have a rewards card there so I would like to buy from there since I earn credits for purchases over $20.00. |

I think a call to Autozone would be in order. I think they will have the answer you need. |

You've been doing just fine, stick with the 5W-30 synthetic and get a lot of life out of it. 7500 miles or six months. |

most but not all mobil one 5w30 synthetic is rated ACEA A1 B1 , A5 B5 which is lesser quality oil than , 5w30 synthetic with ACEA A3 B3 - B4 specification which is base stock IV there is a Euro spec ACEA A3 B3 - B4 oil in their (mobil one) cataloging http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lubes/PDS/GLXXENPVLMOMobil_1_ESP_Formula_5W-30.asp but i have never seen it offered for sale and i have looked . sometimes i go to various parts stores just to read the back of the oil bottles. 5w30 synthetic with ACEA A3 B3 - B4 specification which is base stock IV , a true synthetic many "other" lesser 5w30 alleged synthetic oils are really base stock II or III due to a legal decision NOT test results . many 5w30 alleged synthetic oils DO NOT HAVE ANY specification listed on the containers royal purple and BG and car quest come to mind but there are many others .... do not use those 5w30 alleged synthetic oils unless you want to use an oil that has the same or worse ratings / testing / specifications as Wesson or Mazola oil most 5w 30 european specification oils meet ACEA A3 B3 - B4 you can use mobil one 0w40 as it tests as a 5w 30 as per Blackstone labs, in use ,as per bobistheoilguy. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1554843#Post1554843 go to the store read the back of the containers or go to BMW or VW Audi or Mercedes and use any oil recommended by those manufacturers i have BMW LL01 in my metro now , because it was the cheapest oil that meets the specification in this area . study and learn in bobistheoilguy if you have a mind to . I stocked up on European Formula Castrol Syntec 0W-30 before it went off the shelves. Still have some, still use it. It's the only "true synthetic" Castrol had, at least back when I bought the oil it was the only one... Group IV PAO synthetic oil, and not too shabby either. Don't remember what the specs on the oil were, but the specs more than surpass the factory oil specs for this engine. I'll be using it until I'm out. Once I'm out, I'll most likely find something similar with an add pack as good as this formula had, but I'd hazard a guess and say that there are better ones to be had out there now for a similar price. |
