Went to drive the Geo after it was sitting for a month. It started right up and ran the balls. I drove it to the market and when I came out it was completely dead. No crank. I turned on the lights and tried the key. The lights didn't dim, so I concluded that there was an open circuit to the starter. I was hoping it was the clutch position switch. I would have jumpered it and been on my way. It wasn't. I had a couple of guys push it(not too hard to do!) to get it started and away I went. I later troubleshot the problem to the starter solenoid which is mounted on the starter motor. I went to price the solenoid locally and online and got prices of $68 to $118. I checked out the price of starters and found that the starter (with solenoid attached) cost less than the solenoid by itself! I ended up buying a starter (with solenoid) locally for $65.95. Can't beat that. Five years ago I paid $150 to have the starter on my boat rebuilt. |

An excellent diagnosis and solution to the problem. What did Sir Mullet say on the down shifting Topic; Brake pads $19, Clutch $119. Crazy cheap parts, if you do some shopping, eh. I love it.
