Thanks for the info on my last post. I have limited computer access and type rather slow so I havent been able to get back with all the paticulars. I did the code scan it came up with 12 no faults. The compression was #1-180 #2-160 #3-60 . So I pulled the head off and found the #3 exhuast valve burnt the post on head rebuilding was very helpful. My concern is that once I put it all back together that I will still have to find the starting problem. I also plan on up grading the ground wires .Thanks again for the help. J :type

Just to remind everyone this was the original post:
I have a 89 metro with a 5spd the engine is out of a 90 xfi I think . It dropped a cyl so I did a compression test, after which the car wouldn't start. I have checked the firing order & it does have spark. I also checked to make sure the timing belt hadn't slipped. So I read the book and did the test again this time pulling the fuel pump relay like it said. After putting it back together it started. I opened the shop door to pull it out now it wont start again :banghead My other work rig is a 89 Chevy 1ton it is eating me out of house & home I need to get this thing running thanks for any help

Well, there's a good chance, IMHO, that in disassembly and reassembly you may have cleaned the offending connection. :dunno Like the Throttle Body ground, the starter mounting something. Without having tested, let's hope it's a lack of compression. Did you have the starter bench tested?
