I dont know what to call it, but how do you test the vacume control thing thats hooked up to the egr valve.? it has a hose comming into the bottom and sucks on a diaphram to effect two smaller hoses in some way. My diaphram works, but there is no effect on the way the air comes through the smaller tubes. Also, my EGR doesnt open when the engine runs at any speed.. The egr works when I suck on it, and all the passages are cleaned out.....Dan out. |

that thing that looks like a flying saucer is called a EGR back pressure transducer it is like a valve vacuum from the EGR solenoid gets to one nipple on the edge , when there is enough exhaust back pressure on the center / bottom nipple , the vacuum from the EGR solenoid is allowed to pass to the other nipple on the other edge which connects to the EGR diaphragm if you T in a vacuum gauge to the vacuum to the EGR diaphragm then connect a long vacuum line and place the vacuum gauge under the wiper arm facing you so you can see it do not pinch off the vacuum line when you close the hood drive the car at cruise there should be about 2 to 5" of vacuum present at cruise not idle , and not WOT if yes everything in your EGR controls is good if not post your results |

An easy trick to be totally sure the EGR ports are clear is to remove the EGR valave, start the engine, feel for exhaust coming from exhaust port (should be very audible) and check for suction on the other port. The other port may be clogged. Here is a diagram posted on AutomotiveForums.com by DoctorBill of the port..................

What ever position the diaphram is in from the large tube on the bottom, I cant suck air from either side of the small hoses through the unit. Do I need to get a new unit? Its hell gettin old.....Dan out. |
