Periodically I would see a thread about high idle problems. There were numerous possible solutions as wells as tests that could be performed, to determine what the problem was. I tried some of them- spraying the vaccuum hoses with carb cleaner, etc. Then one day I read a post where a guy replaced the hoses leading to the coolent temperature sensor, and that solved his problem. One day after driving to work (70 miles). I lifted the hood and grabbed those hoses, and sure enough they were cold! You would think that being underhood with everything else it would be hard to tell. I actually didn't find anything wrong with the hoses, but used a phillips-head screwdriver of just the right size to kind of prod inside of the flange the hose connects to. You know, when I put the used motor in, the coolent pipe from my origional motor was pretty corroded- maybe some rusty crap got inside there and blocked flow to the coolent temperature sensor. Hopefully, this will help somone else. Of course I should have said, the JDM motor I put in, that would have made it sound like I got the twin-cam model- you know, the one with 11:1 compression ratio, and the pneumatic valvetrain blahblahblah. I am now getting about 45 mpg, and my car doesn't bog down if I depress the gas pedal more than halfway.
