Hi I have a 1996 firefly with the g10 motor. It is in rough shape and needs an engine rebuild however I need to continue driving it. So I found a low mileage engine from a 1992 in the junk yard. I pulled it and sent the block to the machine shop and the head I was going to send to 3tech performance. however mike at 3tech pointed out that my 96 has a crank sensor mounted into the front of the block. My question is, can this sensor be transferred to the older block? And is there any other incompatibility issues I'm missing? I think the sensor is mounted into the oil pump housing so I don't see why the newer oil pump with the sensor can't be transferred to the older block, but I really don't know. thanks |

I may not be right on this, but I would think that you'd just need to get the '96 and up oil pump...

Thanks It doesn't sound like its much of a problem using an older engine. I started to panic a bit when i found out that there was a crank trigger sticking out of the block. I previously owned a 95 and I guess I assumed it was the same. I lost all confidece when I talked to a suzuki mechanic that told me that the engines are totaly different and can't be swaped. I guess some mechanics only know how to read part numbers out of a database. thanks again for your help |

Totally doable I've swapped the older motors into the newer cars twice, and Cobb has a 92 long block in his 99. |
