and I was really happy with the inside of the car so far tho I have not had a a lot of time to look it over I had to leave for work as soon as I got it home, It is missing both inside door handles so I was lock inside the car till I rolled the window down lol gonna have to get me some new ones, but the first thing I need to get to is the rust problem I believe its a lower control arm or in the area on the passenger side, I'll be looking at it friday. After its drivable thou on to the MPG modding

I'm currently welding some fresh steel onto both frame stands at the forward control arms of a 92XFI. Post some pics of the rust areas....I believe somebody here can post a welding thread to help you out. |

Welcome to the forum, Switchblade8588! Look like a very good buy. Well, we have the usual "econo" mods like tire pressure, Seafoam for a cleaner running less carbon'd up engine, block off the front grill, new wheel bearings, maybe delete the passenger mirror (state laws?) and take a look at ecomodder.com/fuel-economy-mpg-modifications for 65+ mods.

thanks for the mods you posted. I have read the list of +65 and there are some really good ideas in there. I also seen where someone removed there driver side mirror and put the mirror inside the car. I think that would still be legal? any good ideas on keeping these cars from rusting so bad? Thanks Dan Also these pictures where the ones of the car that the guy gave me I would say its doesn't look as nice as the pictures make it look, in the inside the radio was taking out along with the speakers I think and the floor in the back is pulled up, I don't know I haven't looked at it much yet I will know a lot more tomm. Oh and is there anywhere to get stock replacement parts for the inside of the car my inside door handles are broken and I am looking to replace them. Edited by Switchblade8588, Feb 26 2010, 04:37 AM.

I am not sure about new int. parts. But for used. Try Samp. It has #s after his name. I don't remember what they are. I am looking for door handles for the outside of my 94. As far as rust goes. I am way out west. We don't seem to have that problem here. It does not snow right here. I would try Ospho. It is a mild acid. That leaves a zinc coating, it stops the rust process and gets it ready to paint. The fishermen use it out here on their steel boats. It works good. Check your frame horns where the A arms bolt on. It seems to be a very common problem out your way. I am sure BB or one of the guys out east can point you in the right direction as far as repairing them. |

I saw the driver's side mirror delete and I think it was in Washington state? Is "what's legal is the interpretation of the law" the term? You can ask if samp9983 and metroschultz have door handles and 1DCGUY posted the eBay search ebay.comgeo+metro+door+handle. It's what I did pre-forum. I installed an after market stereo and speakers. It's just better. Mr. Murf has great suggestion in Ospho. I hope it's working out... |

Welcome. Nice find. Missed a clean, no rust 92 XFI for $700 last week. Would have looked nice beside my 94 XFI. Guy wanted to deal with locals only & I was 1 1/2 hrs away. Oh well, sometimes you're the windshield & other times you're the bug. PS. I didn't want to do the mirror delete. I'd rather be safer & keep it there. |

Well here is a picture of the rusted frame, I haven't had time to fix it or even know if I can at this point I am kind of worried about alignment and I'm guessing when the frame broke in the first place it also moved the axle because when you put it in gear it makes a grinding sound.

It is repairable. You need a competent welder and some time. The axle may have pulled free of the transmission. The distance from one front control arm bolt to the other is ~ 27 inches |
