I checked my compression today after the motor was warm. It was 175 all the way across. When I squirted oil on the holes the compression went up to 200. It has about 350 miles on a just bored and rebuilt motor. My question is, Is this normal while my rings are "seating"? And should it improve in a while? Is 175 psi enough to make it a little weak on hills? ..Confused in WA....Dan out. |

I haven't rebuilt one yet to be able to compare but from what others are saying it does take some time for the rings to seal. I get the impression 500-1000 miles is not uncommon. Factory spec is 190 and I have read of folks getting that after a rebuild but I don't know how long after. Sounds to me like you are on track, just keep being nice to it and change the oil at 500 miles if you haven't already. |

I have changed it. I switched to 5/20 oil. The motor runs very smooth, but lacks power up hills. I dont mean it has no power at all, but my 92 geo with a beater motor zippes up hills without having to shift out of 5th gear. On some grades I have to shift down to 3rd. I live in the foothills of the Olympics so its behavior on hills is very important to me. |

your new motor has a lot of internal friction depending on how the tolerances were set along with rings not sealing yet = less power it will feel better as miles build some say run it like your going to drive it some say baby it. as long as the oil is changed to catch anything harmful it's up to you. there's a last chance trick for sealing the rings but its way to crude to share here and you're doing fine anyways |

Be gentle on her. She is new. The parts do not like each other yet. And your 97 is a heavier car. Did you take any pics of the rebuild? |
