But how much of a difference does it make?
not much for the normal consumer. but when I feel I need added security for my motors I'll go out of my way to buy a stock of good filters to keep around. if its a junk car I dont care about, it should be happy just GETTING an oil change.

fwiw, the main reason that filters are hard to remove is that the oil that people put on the rubber ring before tightening cokes and glues the filter to the adapter. If you use high temerature silicon grease, that doesn't happen and they are easier to remove. I have a tube of Dow DC4 grease left over from my airplane days that will probably last forever, gotten from a fixed base operator, but I'm sure that any similar silicon grease would work as well.

A common cause of oil filter failure is that the old gasket comes off the old filter and sticks to the housing. Then you have a double gasket which blows out. I would rather not say how I know. :banana :banana :banana
