I was only using Roy as an example, and I agree, he is truly gifted and has put in the time to hone those gifts.

I was only addressing the 'fingers to short and stubby' type comment, my wife for instance is only a step away from dwarfism with tiny stubby fingers, and plays piano and guitar quite well. The banjo was marked as 'hard to play' but can actually sound quite nice with very easy to play methods. Scruggs style (3 finger picking) looks very difficult, and I am a poor hand at it myself.

However, as listed, there is also claw-hammer and frailing, up-picking and alternate bass playing which is quite easy to pick up and learn, and require almost no concentration to keep up with. I mention these in passing, I came from a family where guitar was king and in that family I am the least talented as far as playing any instrument goes :lol but the main point I was trying to make was do not let something keep you from trying *just* because it looks intimidating, if it looks interesting to you give it a shot!

Worst comes to worst you will at least learn the basics of something new, always a worthwhile endeavor and not limited to music ;)
<kicking out soapbox> Enjoy the rest of the thread :)

I second that.
I love Banjo and Bluegrass, and I know not all Banjo is blue grass and vice versa.

Videos in general would be easy, video of my wife playing... well that may be tougher :lol but just to show you how easy playing a banjo itself *can* be do a search on youtube for frailing lessons, claw hammer, whatever strikes your fancy.

My new toys. I'm just now learning how to play. Setting up a "recording studio" in my house to teach myself. I'm using Native Instrument's Guitar Rig 3 and a Rig Kontrol 1 with a Lexicon Alpha. Will be using an XBox 360 Rock Band wired USB drum set hacked to hook into one of my PCs as an electronic drum kit. Should be fun...

Nope not a banjo player... i mess arround on the guitar.... (not verry good at it) im not a Drummer im a Percussionist, the only instrument in that section exept anything related to the Piano, xylophone, ect... never was all that great with memorizing where notes where on them darn things.... but i can play just about anything else I was section leader on the line for 2 years in high school, was allways on the snare, wrote at least 10 full section cadences. im not the greatest on the drum kit but i can get away with it. and durring concert band and jazz band time i picked up the Baratone sax... for some reason the E flat sax was easy for me to pick up... im pretty decent with it

all in all i love to freestyle with both the percussion side of me has a good beat and the sax side has a good tune to put to that beat...

right now i have an Alto on hand but would LOVE to buy a Barry but thats at good 2Gs away :(

I proudly have Roy Clark on my I-Pod. We used to listen to Roy all the time growing up in Granada Hills. Still do. Malaguena is a Killer Agressive Badass Song. Don't Mess with Malaguena!! Yesterday When I Was Young, The Tips Of My Fingers, Then She's A Lover, Right Or Left At Oak Street, and Thank God and Greyhound are some of my other favorites too.
