custom drive line to make everything work? Hmmm, can be a ton of fun. My sister in law builds custom drivelines here in Utah.
Oh cool. When we get to that point I may ask for some indirect advice. :thumb

If it's inspiring I will offer these links to stuffing a Geo. ;)

Stuffing a VTEC engine in one.

Geo with a Buick V6 in it. Just pics.

I recall seeing a Geo set up for drag racing for sale on Craigslist.

And if updates take too much time then just '1000 word pictures' will do, thank you very much. :thumb

And the inspiration for this transplant was... I'm thinking the team had mass hysteria. My wife says too much beer over Thanksgiving weekend. :rofl

:hmm I always envisioned taking the drivetrain from a WRX STi and planting it into a Metro. I'm not sure if the Boxer engine will fit between the frame rails or not. But an EJ20 turbo and all-wheel drive would be interesting...

Here's a thousand words. Car is stripped bare.

Another thousand. 230HP. BMW M54B30. This car might need some reinforcement.

Got 70 MPG?

That's a lot of weight up front, any plans for suspension work to compensate for that?

Yes, see the other thread. He's using BMW stuff up front too, I believe.

The M54B30 is listed as weighing 375lbs. Not sure what the tranny weighs. Certainly it will be heavier than the 3-cylinder, but not by a huge amount. We will be completely fabricating a new firewall, tranny tunnel, engine mounts, diff mount, subframe mounts and chassis bracing. We plan to use an E36 front subframe and suspension. That will include all BMW springs, dampers, brakes, etc.. On the rear we plan to use a diff from and E30 325i and a rear subframe and suspension from an E30.

It "should" be easier to transplant and mate subframe to the car than mate the existing subframes to the BMW suspension parts.

Sure... Really only a Metro body at this point, but it will look like a Metro. Mostly. ;)

Time for more updates. Today we prepared the Metro for front end fabrication.

First we removed the front frame rails from a 300K+ mile E36.

Posted Image

Here is an example of one of our donors we'll need to mate to the Metro.

Posted Image

Trying to plan the mockup of the frame rail.

Posted Image

Our gutted donor.

Posted Image

The subframe mocked in place. (ok... Waaaay out of place, but we are starting to get the idea.)

Posted Image

We get it positioned with struts attached and control arms approximated. Nice offset, huh?

Posted Image

Might as well bolt up some E36 M3 rims! ;)

Posted Image

We'll need at least 225-50/16 up front to handle this...

Posted Image

We hope to get our fabricator in to attach frame rails, and plan for rebuilding tranny tunnel and firewall.
