If you can post or send me a pick of the trans, I can tell you what it is. And if there is a bolt in 5spd available. Last year there was a feller here getting his Metro ready to rally in like Morroco. He had similar $ restraints. The first time I was in France, headed to Laman's. I remember going through Paris, And that was just about it. We did not make a hotel res. So we wound up sleeping on the streets. When I got back to Stuttgart. My clothes were filthy, and my Tshirt had a huge purple wine stain down the front of it. LOL |

Well... Time to resurrect this thread from the dead. Several weeks ago we replaced the stock rotors, calipers and pads. We started by having a little trouble getting off the stock rotors. Nothing a puller couldn't handle, and we repacked the front bearings to boot. ![]() Here's a pic of one of the finished front rotors...Brembo....Shiny!!! ![]() Here's a completely finished corner. Autozone calipers and pads. Carbotech pads to be added later. XP8s. ![]() We then sealed and primered various rust spots. ![]() Finished gutting the interior. Removing every last piece of extra weight. ![]() New air filter. Every fluid in the car replaced. Total is a great sponsor for our fluids. Duck Creek Tire in Bettendorf, Iowa was kind enough to donate their services to swap out fluids and dispose of old fluids. ![]() This is the next job to tackle. We need to strengthen this section of the frame/body. Duck Creek Tire has been kind enough to weld in structural support to this area. Pics of after will come later. ![]() Also need to replace CV joints. Lots of clunking going on. ![]() Trying to track some of these wheels down. Hyundai 15x6's. ![]() Due to having a 190+ treadwear restriction, Bridgestone (another awesome sponsor) RE-11's aren't gonna work. So we're hoping to get some Bridgeston RE750s, but may not be able to get the right size. If push comes to shove, may have to go with some Dunlop Direzza Star Specs. Will be installing race seat and cage soon. Still pricing out cage, and finding a builder. Hope to get it on the track by June 7th for a practice run at Autobahn Raceway in Joliet, IL. More updates to include after pics from current trip to Duck Creek Tire, cage build pics, video of track time in June, painting of the car by the kids at Wildwood Hills Ranch (our charity) and more!!!:thumb |

Well. The rear shoes have been replaced. The wheels are in. Bridgestone backed out on sponsorship, so waiting on word back from two other possible tire sponsors. Straight pipe exhaust is in... I have a video I need to figure out how to get up. This little thing is LOUD! (Maybe upload it to youtube?) Saturday we'll pull dash, fix remaining rust areas with Bondo. The rust areas on frame have been strengthened. We have some room in our budget to do some engine modifications. Our plan is to get the cage and seat installed and run the car at Autobahn Raceway in June, and if it runs reasonably well, then do further suspension and engine mods as our budget allows. Then you guys can help with cams, etc.. ![]() Will update hopefully Sunday! |

Well, we removed the dash! Before: ![]() In the middle (disregard the sawzall ):![]() After: ![]() Notice we removed almost everything, we ran out of time. We plan to have a knee bar as part of the cage, so wanted as much room as possible. While we were at it, we skinned the driver and passenger doors to prepare for the roll cage. ![]() The car is becoming so light that we have a dramatic amount of positive camber. Next we plan to cut springs. Add aftermarket dampers (should fit in budget), or possible change existing dampers with different oil (not easy). Add rollcage. Add Kirkey seat. We also got our steel wheels in. Only problem is the offset. Ugh. Need 12-13mm less offset. We didn't get any pics of them yet, as they're not wrapped with tires. Still plan to get it track-worthy by June 7th and get video. We did test how loud the car is with a straight pipe coming out in front of the rear tire. 102db at 50ft at wide open throttle!!!! Yeah, a Cherry Bomb muffler or the like is in our future. More to come in the future. |

Probably not a good idea to weld the driver's door. The passenger door and hatch could be welded. We haven't discussed that. If you welded the driver's door, think about how difficult it would be to get out of your harness, seat and through the window in the event of a fire. Our SFI3.5 rated suits only give us about 10 seconds to prevent burns in the event of a fire. |

NASCAR does it? I'm pretty sure it helps with overall structure strength, or maybe i'm imagining that...haha |

yes, nascar does it but their suits have a longer exposure time. (cost a sh*tload of $$) |

Yeah... Welding the driver's door would be the quickest way to fail tech before the race. They actually remind you that you need to practice getting out of the car. We will have a Hans device, 6pt harness, containment seat, removeable steering wheel, maybe a drivers net. You've got roughly 10 seconds to get out with the level of suits we can (and are willing) to afford. To have to squeeze yourself between the seat and the smallish window of the metro would be physically impossible for a couple of our larger drivers. Not to mention, the minimal added rigidity of welding doors shut just isn't worth it. Once the cage is in, that will provide 90% of the car's rigidity. Researching all the LeMons races, we're really going to be underpowered compared to many of the top tier "cheater" cars. We really have little ambition winning this thing anyway. We are doing this for charity, so every lap adds to our total we raise. Thankfully we have some seasoned drivers that will know how to hustle a momentum car around a track. Hopefully we'll at least be competitive. |

Ha.. Yeah... the roll cage will end up costing us 5x what the car did. Once we're done with these two races, I might be posting a cage for sale in case one of you guys wants to pick up road racing. Bawahahaaaa!!! |
