Well. This week we're sending back the wheels we bought (wrong offset). Trying to get some 14's or 15's. A guy in our group does enduros with an older Integra and has bought several wheels for it, so he has access to a lightweight steel wheel builder that can make custom wheels. He often has lots of wheels laying around (I guess?). So, we'll see what we come up with.

We have steel braided brake lines going in this week. We had some made for $55 (roughly), but they were too short. We contacted the company, and we have the correct size now.

We have a cage fabricator coming to look at the car (hopefully this week).

We'll be adding a Cherry Bomb muffler this week.

We need to Bondo some rust spots. We're not looking for a perfect permanent rust fix, just something to make the car look reasonable.

Waiting for our welder to have an opportunity to weld in some support where the left front control arm attaches to the frame (it's rusty).

I'll post more soon...

Well, we removed the dash!

Before:

In the middle (disregard the sawzall :lol ):

After:

Notice we removed almost everything, we ran out of time. We plan to have a knee bar as part of the cage, so wanted as much room as possible.

While we were at it, we skinned the driver and passenger doors to prepare for the roll cage.

The car is becoming so light that we have a dramatic amount of positive camber.

Next we plan to cut springs. Add aftermarket dampers (should fit in budget), or possible change existing dampers with different oil (not easy). Add rollcage. Add Kirkey seat.

We also got our steel wheels in. Only problem is the offset. Ugh. Need 12-13mm less offset. We didn't get any pics of them yet, as they're not wrapped with tires.

Still plan to get it track-worthy by June 7th and get video.

We did test how loud the car is with a straight pipe coming out in front of the rear tire. 102db at 50ft at wide open throttle!!!! :O Yeah, a Cherry Bomb muffler or the like is in our future. :P

More to come in the future.
That steel brace that goes from door to door. I have one that I lightend. I can't use it though. It started out at about 21 lbs. I think the one I have is like 11 lbs now. It also looks like swiss cheese too. I drilled 5/8" holes everywhere I could. If you would like I can send it to you? I know time is of the essence. I know. I am trying to get my 99 to Bonneville in Sept. PM me it you would like it. Don't worry the cost. I will cover the shipping.

Wow... Mr. Murf.. that's awfully nice of you. Let me ask this, do you think we need the brace with the cage in place? I know we'll need a way to support the steering column without the brace, but if we can find a way to support the steering column with a knee bar that's a part of the cage then do we even need the brace? If you think we should keep it, I'll ask the guys if they want your brace. We could cover shipping or whatever though.

I haven't been over to the garage yet. We've acquired a "full-time" mechanic who is excited about working on our build. He's doing the muffler work, so I'm anxious to see what he comes up with. Should be rather loud. :)

Still awaiting final word on wheels and a cage builder... you'd think the car was getting built by the US Congress.

I put my cage behind the dash. It meant I had to cut up the dash to get it to fit over the door hoops. And I mounted my steering to the cross bar inside the dash. I had to off set it so I could still use my stock gauges. The speedo wanted to lay against the drop bar for the steering. I also tied my door hoops to the front of the door frame. Making sure its tied together side to side. I am only going in a staight line. Your going to be turning, and running out on the track with other cars. So crashes can happen. If you tie it together side to side. I would not worry about the stock brace. Also I need a better pic of your trans. Can you shoot it from inside the engine compartment looking down. The shot through the axle hole is not enough for me to ID it. There is only gonna be 4 maybe 5, 4spds it can be. Having that 5th gear for the long staights might be really handy. I will be here sat, sun, days. Then I will be back tues PM. Let me know

Mr Murf... I think you missed my earlier post.. ? 1 month ago? The tranny is a 5-speed. The guy that sold it to us must have been having a bad day when I was pressing him about the tranny, as he kept saying it was a 4-speed. At the time the brakes were seized, a cv joint was bad and the car wasn't really running. So, we hadn't even shifted it but out to neutral. Later that week I went back up, fixed some problems, and low and behold... 5 speeds. Nothing novel about the tranny I'm afraid.

Our cage builder is meeting with us on Wednesday, once we talk with him then I'll let you know on the cross brace. There are VERY specific rules for cage building to pass tech for the 24hours of Lemons races.

Our website is finally up and running!!! www.lemonaidracing.com There you'll be able to see our cause, and where the funds raised through racing will go. Even more exciting, there's a children's book in the works about our car and team!!!!

More to come.
